After getting lit on fire by Donovan Mitchell, the Chicago Bulls (16-21, 9-9 home) now have to contend with the hottest team in basketball, as the Brooklyn Nets (25-12, 12-7 away) come to town.
The Nets are coming off a whipping of the San Antonio Spurs last time out, and are right on the heels of the East-leading Boston Celtics.
Chicago, meanwhile, has sagged to 11th in the Easts, tied with the Raptors, a half-game behind the Wizards for the final play-in berth in the conference.
Not surprisingly, the NBA odds have the visitors as 5-point favorites in the Windy City.

It all gets underway Wednesday (January 4) at 8pm ET from the United Center, in a game you can see live on NBA League Pass.
The Nets have the most road wins of any team in basketball, running a 12-7 mark. The Bulls are 9-9 at home — just one of four teams yet to hit double-digit home wins in the Easts this season.
Brooklyn Betting Outlook
Brooklyn’s streak is impressive, but the truth is they’ve been playing a pretty good brand of ball since Jacque Vaughn took over as head coach.
They’ve lost just seven times in the 30 games Vaughan has been bench boss, after an uneven 2-5 start to the year that cost Steve Nash his job.

BK crushed the Spurs 139-103 last time out, the fifth time in this fun run they’ve won by double-digits. The offense was again unstoppable, with the Nets shooting 62.4% from the field. That’s the fifth time during this streak they’ve hit at better than 60%.
As they have all streak, the Nets were carried by their stars.
Kyrie Irving led the way with 27 points on a crisp 11-for-14 shooting night, to go along with eight rebounds. Kevin Durant finished with 25 points, 11 assists and three rebounds.
While Brooklyn ranks 15th in scoring, they lead the league in field goal shooting at 51.5%, and are second in three-point shooting (39.3%).
Kyrie & KD Streak Stats
10 | Games Played | 11 |
29.3 | Points | 28.8 |
6.3 | Rebounds | 7.0 |
4.8 | Assists | 5.6 |
49.2% | FG Shooting | 59.1% |
45.5% | 3-PT Shooting | 40.7% |
Chicago Betting Outlook
The Bulls were just swept in a home-and-home series by the Cleveland Cavaliers. The last game, one they led by 18 at halftime, will be one etched in the record books, and would have likely never happened if the Bulls secured a last-second rebound.
Instead, a Donovan Mitchell intentional miss and putback sent the game to OT, where Mitchell would outscore Chicago 13-4 on his own to beat the Bulls 145-134, finishing with 71 (!!) points.

That also wasted a brilliant performance from DeMar DeRozan, who poured in 44 points, to go along with four assists and four steals. Zach LaVine had 26 points, six rebounds and six dimes.
A top-7 unit in limiting offensive rebounding, Chicago allowed Cleveland to grab 13 offensive boards.
Chicago is just a middle-of-the-pack unit in scoring defense, but they struggle to defend the 3-point line, as teams are hitting at a 37.4% clip on them, the second-worst mark in the league.

Nets vs Bulls Prediction
This is the second of four meetings between these teams, with the Bulls taking the first game 108-99. Chicago broke a close game open in the fourth quarter, oustcoring BK 31-19.
Hard to put much value in that one now though, as it was Vaughn’s first game as head coach.
Brooklyn has been a solid cover lately, going 5-1 against the spread in their last six games, and they’re 6-2 ATS in their last eight meetings in Chicago.
As home ‘dogs, the Bulls are 3-4-1 ATS on the season, and 8-9-1 ATS at the United Center overall.
The Nets have had a +11.8 point differential during this run, and the beat should go on here.
- Pick: Nets -5 (-110); 1.5 units to win 1.36 units
- NBA Betting Record: 19-15 ATS, 1-1 ML, 2-3 o/u, 0-2 parlays; -2.28 units
