  • The Brooklyn Nets are 2-point road ‘dogs when they visit the New York Knicks Monday night
  • Brooklyn and its revamped roster still sit in fifth in the East, while New York is three games back in seventh
  • Read below for the Nets vs Knick preview with odds and prediction

Sitting in fifth in the East, the Brooklyn Nets (33-23, 16-12 away) are trying to figure out what they have after dealing megastars Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant in a span of a couple of days.

If the New York Knicks (31-27, 15-15 home) want to move out of the play-in, where they currently sit seventh, they should take advantage.

New York will try to stop an ugly 9-game skid to their city rivals, who they trail by three games in the Eastern Conference when they clash Monday (Feb 13) at 7:30pm ET from Madison Square Garden, a game you can catch live on NBA League Pass.

The NBA odds have the home side as 2-point favorites, in a game that features a total of 223.

With a record of 15-15 at MSG, the Knicks have the worst home record of any team in the NBA currently in playoff or play-in position.

For Brooklyn, this will be their third game, post Big-3 fallout. They’ve lost three of their last four.

Brooklyn Betting Analysis

The Nets looked promising with their new-look lineup, though they lost to the 76ers 101-98. A Ryan Dinwiddie 3-pointer to tie the game was all net from near midcourt, but the ball was released just after the buzzer.

It was a rough outing for Dinwiddie, who was just 2-for-10 from the field for nine points, with six boards and six dimes. That was far from his debut game, when he lit the Bulls up for 25 points, five boards, six dimes and four steals in a 116-105 victory.

Mikal Bridges, the centerpiece in return for Durant (along with four unprotected first-round picks), opened his Nets career with 23 points, six rebounds and a couple of steals.

The haul from dealing Irving and Durant leaves a glut of wing players on the roster, many who are long and can defend multiple positions. Of their starters, Dorian Finney-Smith, Cam Johnson, Bridges, Nic Claxton and Dinwiddie, the shortest player on the floor is 6’6″.

Off the bench, there’s still Ben Simmons, Joe Harris, Yuta Watanbe and Royce O’Neal, with emerging stud Cam Thomas adding more scoring punch.

New York Betting Analysis

The Knicks picked up their third win in four games with a 126-120 win over the Utah Jazz last time out.

Jalen Brunson finished with a game-high 38 points, while adding five dimes. He was in attack mode all evening, getting to the stripe 15 times, missing just once.

Julius Randle added 31 points and six boards, while RJ Barrett potted 20 points and six rebounds. New York’s newest acquisition, Josh Hart, finished with 11 points, seven rebounds, four assists and four steals.

A no-nonsense, do-everything swingman is Tom Thibodeau’s prototype, so look for Hart to get plenty of burn.

This matchup will feature two of the better defenses in the league: the Knicks are 12th in points allowed, giving up 112.6 per game, while the Nets are in eighth, at 112.2.

Both sides sport top-4 field goal shooting defense, though New York is sixth in defending the three-point line, with teams shooting just 34.8%.

Nets vs Knicks Betting Prediction

You have to go back more than three years (Jan 26, 2020) for the last time the Knicks were able to top the Nets. But circumstances have changed. The last head-to-head was Jan 28 of this year, with Brooklyn winning 122-115, in what was Irving’s last game as Net.

The Knicks have been a rough bet at home this season, going just 7-11-2 against the spread at MSG, a bottom-6 mark in the NBA. Brooklyn has feasted as a road underdog, going 9-4 ATS in 13 games this season. How they do with this crew going forward is anyone’s guess.

Brooklyn has gone 4-0 ATS in their last four games following a loss.

BK’s new puzzle pieces make for a tough defense, just as NYK, making the total enticing. As is the fact that the under has hit 22 of the last 29 head-to-head meetings.  Let’s veer from the spread and look for a low-scoring affair.

Pick:

  • UNDER 223 (-110); 1.5 units to win 1.31 units
  • NBA Betting Record: 26-26-1 ATS, 1-1 ML, 5-7 o/u, 0-2 parlays; -9.06 units
