The Nets are -146 road favorites in Sunday’s game with the total for the game listed as 227. The Lakes hold a line of +124 and are three-point underdogs at home.

Nets, Lakers Off to Slow Starts

Both Brooklyn and Los Angeles have flooded the headlines already this season, mainly due to the struggles for both teams that have occurred over the first dozen or so games. The Nets have already experienced a head coaching change to go along with drama surrounding Kyrie Irving’s suspension and Kevin Durant’s ongoing frustration in Brooklyn.

The Lakers have gotten off to a brutal start and are riding a five-game losing streak, bringing into question what the team does with the roster moving forward and potentially blowing things up to focus on the future.

Both teams have dealt with injuries and absences so far this season as well, feeding into the slow starts. The Lakers were without LeBron James (adductor strain) in Friday’s game with him listed as day-to-day, while Anthony Davis is still working through back issues although he has returned to the lineup.

The Nets will still be without Irving (suspension) in Sunday’s game, leaving them shorthanded yet again while playing on the second night of a back-to-back.

Sunday’s matchup will be the first of two between Los Angeles and Brooklyn this season, with the second and final contest coming on Jan. 30 in Brooklyn. A season ago, the Lakers and Nets split their two-game season series, with both road teams winning in those contests.

Nets vs Lakers Prediction and Pick

Sunday’s contest is setting up to be an interesting one featuring a shorthanded Brooklyn team on the second night of a back-to-back facing a struggling Los Angeles squad with a five-game losing streak.

It will also be a game that could be a low-scoring affair, with the Lakers ranked 26th in the NBA in points per game (108.3) and the Nets coming in at 19th (110.6).

Although the Nets will be shorthanded, notably without Irving yet again, Brooklyn is 4-1 over its last five games without Irving in the lineup. Brooklyn also has a record of 1-2 in back-to-backs this year, so it is familiar with dealing with the hurdle of a back-to-back. Those trends will likely continue on Sunday, with the Nets taking the game on the road against a Lakers team that has nothing going right for them right now.

As for betting on Sunday’s game, it’s worth noting Los Angeles has been the worst team in the NBA against the spread so far this year, while Brooklyn is around the .500 mark against the spread.

For the best bet of the night, go with the under on the game total of 227. Both teams possess below-average offenses, while Brooklyn is on the second night of a back-to-back, and Los Angeles having one of the worst offenses in the league so far. This game should result in under that 227-point total mark.

The Pick: Under 227 (-110)
