Zero. That is the amount of times an NBA team has rallied to force a Game 7 in a playoff series after falling behind 3-0. The Lakers will now try to become the first franchise to every accomplish the feat, after they dropped Game 3 to the Nuggets on Saturday night.

Speaking of firsts, Denver will try to punch its inaugural ticket to the NBA Finals on Monday, as they look to complete the four-game sweep of LeBron James and Co.

Online sportsbooks aren’t expecting the King and his mates to go down without a fight however, as they pegged LA as the Game 4 home chalk in the NBA betting lines.

Denver vs Los Angeles Betting Splits and Trends

Bettors meanwhile, are ready to stick a fork in LA. They’re backing the Nuggets on 62% of the spread wagers as of Sunday night, with those tickets making up 88% of the ATS handle. With their victory in Game 3, Denver improved to 3-3 both straight up and against the spread on the road this postseason, and 8-6 ATS overall.

LA on the other hand, lost for the first time since the regular season in its own building, and had their stretch of six straight home covers snapped as well.

Total wise, over 224.5 is drawing the bulk of the action, as 67% of the wagers and 62% of the handle are on that side. Game 3 eclipsed the total by 3.5 points, after Game 2 fell well below the number. Nuggets playoff games are 8-6 to the over so far, while eight of 15 Lakers postseason contests have cleared the total.

Nuggets vs Lakers Series Odds

Team Odds
Denver Nuggets -2500
Los Angeles Lakers +1200

As for the series odds market, the Nuggets’ 3-0 lead has catapulted them from -450 favorites to -2500 to advance in the NBA playoff bracket. Denver also saw its NBA Championship odds significantly shortened following Game 3, moving from +115 to -195 to win it all.

DEN vs LAL Betting Analysis

Not only has no NBA team ever come back from 3-0 down, only three have ever forced a Game 7. 91 of the 149 times a team has fallen into a 3-0 hole they’ve been swept, and that’s happened eight times to the Lakers.

A LeBron James led team has never been swept prior to the NBA Finals, although it has happened to him twice in the Championship round.

The Lakers were in position again in the fourth quarter of Game 3 to get a W, but simply couldn’t close. After a quiet three quarters, Nikola Jokic came alive in the final frame, helping orchestrate a 13-0 run to put the game on ice.

The two-time MVP finished with an underwhelming (by his standards) stat line of 24 points, eight assists and six rebounds, but he got plenty of help from his supporting cast. Four other Nuggets scored in double-figures, led by Jamal Murray’s 37. Murray has 31+ points in three straight games, while shooting 45.5% from three versus the Lakers.

LA got 23 points from James, and 28 points and 18 boards from Anthony Davis, but made seven fewer threes and committed six more turnovers.

The loss was the Lakers first at home since March 23, and the first home playoff game in which an opponent exceeded 101 points in a contest that didn’t go to overtime.

Nuggets vs Lakers Predictions

LA has been a special story this season and it’s a shame their run is going to come to an end. Don’t forget this team started the campaign 2-10, and completely overhauled its roster prior to the All-Star break. James has too much pride to let this squad be swept, and we should expect them to stick around for at least one more game.

Nuggets vs Lakers Same-Game Parlay

Team Odds
Los Angeles Lakers Moneyline -165
Austin Reaves Over 2.5 Threes +105
Same-Game Parlay Odds +210

If the Lakers are going to extend the series, they’ll need Austin Reaves’ hot shooting to continue. We cashed over 2.5 threes for him in Game 3, and we’re going right back to the well in Game 4 at plus-money. Reaves is shooting 56.5% from three in the West Final, making 13 of 23 three-point attempts.

While we’re backing Reaves in the player props market we’re looking to fade Dennis Schroder. The 29-year-old has been a non-factor all series shooting 35% from the field, and failing to exceed 6 points in all three games. He’s taken five or fewer shots in two of the outings, and is one of the least desirable offensive options when he’s on the court.

Picks:

  • LA Lakers Moneyline (-165)
  • Austin Reaves Over 2.5 Threes (+100)
  • Dennis Schroder Under 7.5 Points (-115)
