  • The Knicks take a 3-1 series lead into Boston tonight for Game 5 against the Celtics
  • Kristaps Porzingis is shooting 27.8% in the series, and has been a liability on defense

Minus their best player, the Celtics try to stave off elimination in the NBA playoff bracket tonight against the Knicks. Jayson Tatum underwent successfully Achilles surgery today, and his absence creates a major offensive void for his teammates to fill. Many bettors are expecting Kristaps Porzingis to rise up in Tatum’s absence, but I’m’ not convinced. I think Porzingis’ player prop lines are inflated for Game 5, and I’m looking to hammer some of his unders.

Porzingis carries a 14.5 points prop tonight, which is well behind Jalen Brunson who sports a game high 27.5 points over/under. Porzingis also boasts a rebound prop of 5.5 and an assists prop of 1.5, but I believe the best way to bet him is by wagering under on his PTS+REB+AST line.

Knicks vs Celtics Player Prop #1: Kristaps Porzingis Under 22.5 PTS+REB+AST

  • Kristaps Porzingis Under 22.5 PTS+REB+AST (-120 at Caesars)

The loss of Tatum has sunk the Celtics NBA Championship odds. They now sit at +4500 to repeat, after starting the postseason at +190. There’s no replacement for Tatum, as he’s a force as a scorer, rebounder and facilitator. At his peak, Porzingis was capable of taking over games, but we haven’t seen that in ages. To make matters worse, he’s still dealing with a mysterious illness. That’s limited his minutes, and we’ve seen nothing this series to suggest he’s ready for a bigger workload.

Porzingis Regular Season vs Playoffs

19.5PTS8.9
6.8REB5.9
2.1AST0.9

Through four games, Porzingis is averaging just 17.5 minutes. When he’s been on the court, it’s been ugly, as he’s shooting 27.5% for the series. He hasn’t cleared 8 points in any of the four games, and isn’t built to battle with the fierce Knicks defenders.

At the other end of the floor, he’s a liability. Porzingis boasts a -16.8 defensive win shares versus New York. He’s being relentlessly hunted by the Knicks on defense, and isn’t contributing much on the glass either. Porzingis has pulled down just 4 rebounds in each contest so far, which is three less than his 2025 season average.

NYK vs BOS Prop Pick #2: Karl-Anthony Towns Over 12.5 Rebounds

  • Karl-Anthony Towns Over 12.5 Rebounds (+105 Caesars)

My next favorite wager to target is over 12.5 rebounds for Karl-Anthony Towns. Tatum was the Celtics leading rebounder by a large margin, and his absence makes Towns’ life even easier. KAT was already averaging 14 boards per game in the series, clearing this line in three of four contests.

YouTube video

He pulled down 13 boards per start during the regular season, and will face little resistance from the Celts bigs. Porzingis is a shell of himself, while Luke Kornet is basically unplayable. That leaves Al Hortford as Boston’s next best rebounder, a player that Towns towers over.
