The King Has Come to Staples With Cup Filled

This bet has been fueled by James’ absence from the Lakers’ lineup. After injuring his groin in a Christmas Day win over the Golden State Warriors, James was going to be out an extended period of time. On December 28th, arriving as a spectator in a game against the Clippers, it appears that James had his favorite drink in hand.

While it was never confirmed, that looks like a glass of something red. And something pretty boss.

To prove that this wasn’t just a one-time thing, LeBron came back to Staples a few days later, on his birthday, and even lamented that he had forgotten his drink.

About a month later, still not back from injury, and the Lakers spiraling out of the playoff picture – a stretch where they would lose 11 of 17 – James was seen again sipping from an interesting bottle. It should be noted  as well, that the Lakers were getting thrashed most of the night by the visiting 76ers.

What’s the Best Bet to Make Here?

Here’s the thing: if the Lakers are going to make it to the postseason, they are going to need a healthy LeBron James.

And by all indications, he is prepared for a stretch run where he will need to carry his young and inexperienced squad.

All of these drink-in-hand moments were when James knew he wasn’t available. Whether he was on his couch or in the arena, the guy was a total spectator.

The closest he’s going to come to a drink, going forward, will be in jest, like when he went for a bottle in a playoff game against the Raptors.

While the yes bet is enticing, the only way James is going to get a night off and a wine glass in hand is if the Lakers reel off an inordinate amount of wins, clinching a playoff berth (also higher than eighth, so they don’t have to face the Warriors), and allowing him to rest a game or two before the playoffs start.

And you’re going to need a drink, if you believe that’s going to happen.
