The best-of-seven Western Conference final between the Minnesota Timberwolves (57-35, 28-18 away, 46-45-1 ATS) and OKC Thunder (76-17, 50-7 home, 57-33-4 ATS) starts on Tuesday night at the Paycom Center in Oklahoma City (7:35 pm CT/8:35 pm ET).

The teams split their four regular-season meetings with each winning once at home and once on the other’s court but Tuesday’s NBA odds heavily favor the NBA-best Thunder starting the series with a win.

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander (29.0 PPG, 5.9 RPG, 6.4 APG postseason) once again has a point total over 30 (31.5 O/U). SGA went over 30 points in five of seven games against the Nuggets in round two, and two of four against the Grizzlies in round one, though he only played 23 minutes in a 131-80 Game 1 rout.

Anthony Edwards (26.5 PPG, 8.0 RPG, 5.9 APG postseason) has the highest total on the Wolves at 25.5 O/U. Edwards has exceeded 25.5 points just four times in ten playoff games, twice against the Lakers in round one and twice against the Warriors in round two.

The highest rebound totals on the board belong to Rudy Gobert (8.9 PPG, 9.6 RPG postseason) and Chet Holmgren (15.7 PPG, 9.7 RPG postseason), both at 9.5 O/U.

Timberwolves vs Thunder Picks & Predictions

  • Timberwolves +7.5 (-110) at DraftKings
  • Edwards under 25.5 points (-115) at bet365

All four of the regular-season games between OKC and Minnesota were competitive. The Timberwolves showed a fairly unique ability to resist the Thunder’s usual onslaughts. OKC’s +12.9 per game point differential was the best in the NBA by 3.4 points, which was what propelled their league-best 52-26-4 ATS record during the regular season. But Minnesota kept the deficit to single-digits in both losses and won the other two meetings outright.

The Wolves will also be the more rested team heading into Tuesday, getting five full days off since eliminating the Warriors on Wednesday, May 14. OKC played Game 6 against Denver on THursday, May 15, and Game 7 on Sunday, May 18.

While I am backing the Timberwolves to cover as sizable road underdogs, I’m fading Anthony Edwards’ point total, betting under 25.5. As mentioned, Edwards has stayed under that number in six of ten postseason games so far, and he exceeded it just once in four regular-season games against OKC. averaged just 19.8 PPG against the Thunder. The only time he went over was in the 130-123 loss on Feb.23, scoring 29 points in a losing effort.
