The Warriors (11-10, 2-9 away) are trending up. The Mavericks (9-10, 8-3 home) on the other hand, are trending down.

Golden State and Dallas will square off on Tuesday for the first time this season, and in spite of the teams’ recent track records, online sportsbooks have deemed this matchup too close to call.

The game opened up as pick’em in the NBA odds, as Golden State looks to extend its season long winning streak.

Golden State Warriors Betting Analysis

The defending champions enter play with the fourth shortest price to repeat in the NBA Championship odds. They’ve won three straight and five of six overall, thumping Minnesota on the road last time out 137-114.

The game started off with a bang, see video above, and the Dubs didn’t relent. They scored 47 points on 76% shooting in the opening frame, building a 20 point lead and never looking back.

Steph Curry led the way with 25 points, 11 rebounds and eight assists in just 33 minutes, while Jordan Poole added 24 points and Klay Thompson splashed 21. Draymond Green chipped in his first double-double of the season (19 p, 11 a), while former T-Wolves star Andrew Wiggins poured in 17.

Golden State shot a ridiculous 57.5% from the field and 42.6% from three. They outrebounded Minnesota by 16 and dished out 14 more assists. Offense was never an issue for the Warriors despite their slow 3-7 start. They rank ninth in offensive rating and third in points per game.

NBA Top-5 Scoring Teams

Team PPG
Boston Celtics 120.4
Sacramento Kings 119.1
Golden State Warriors 117.8
New Orleans Pelicans 117.3
Utah Jazz 117.1

Defense has been the issue, and while it’s improving, it’s still not back to championship calibre. They held the T-Wolves to 44.3% from the field, but still allowed them to hit 40% of their threes.

Golden State enters play allowing 117.3 points per game, the second most in the league, while ranking 22nd in defensive rating. They’ve coughed up at least 114 points in five of their past seven, but fortunately their offense has been good enough to carry them to victory in most of those outings.

Dallas Mavericks Betting Analysis

The Mavericks meanwhile, have dropped a season-high four straight. The last three defeats have come on the road, most recently in Milwaukee. They fell 124-115 to the 2021 champs, despite a strong offensive performance.

Luka Doncic led the way with 27 points and 12 assists, while Spencer Dinwiddie poured in 22 and Christian Wood added 12 points off the bench. Dallas shot 51% from the field and 41.5% from three, but just couldn’t get stops in their own end.

The Mavs yielded a 56% shooting percentage to the Bucks, and a 46% mark from downtown. They lost the battle on the boards and scored 14 fewer points in the paint. Dallas’ defense has been an issue in its last two games versus title contenders, as they also surrendered 125 points to Boston.

Offensively, despite having a top-two NBA MVP odds contender in Doncic, the team is struggling. They’re averaging only 106 points per outing during their skid, and are having trouble adjusting when teams draw Doncic and force the ball out of his hands.

That prompted them to sign four-time All-Star guard Kemba Walker on Monday, in large part to help fill the void by Jalen Brunson’s departure in the offseason.

Warriors vs Mavericks Prediction

As of Monday afternoon, it’s unclear if Walker will play on Tuesday. He’s reportedly in game shape after spending the last month training in Florida since being released by Detroit.

Regardless of if he’s in the lineup or not, Dallas should be able to find success at the offensive end. This is still a top-12 ranked unit in offensive rating, and Golden State’s defense isn’t exactly imposing.

At the other end, there are no indications that the Warriors scorching hot offensive play is set to slow down. They’ve scored at least 124 points in four of five outings, and have no significant injuries to report.

NBA Top-Five Over Teams

Team Over Record Over % +/-
Oklahoma City Thunder 14-6-0 70.0% +10.3
Golden State Warriors 12-8-1 60.0% +4.5
Boston Celtics 11-8-1 57.9% +8.3
New Orleans Pelicans 11-8-0 57.9% +1.1
Dallas Mavericks 11-8-0 57.9% -0.6

Golden State’s strong offense and underwhelming defense has made them a popular choice for over bettors. They’re 12-8-1 to the over this season, while the Mavs are 11-8.

Pick: Over 225.5 (-110)
