Army will try to continue its surprising run atop the Patriot League standings when it visits Colgate at 6:00 p.m. ET Monday at Cotterell Court in Hamilton, N.Y.

Army (9-6/3-0 Patriot League/2-5 road) is tied for first place with Navy after putting together a three-game winning streak. The Black Knight are the only team never to get to the tournament championship game since the Patriot League was formed in 1990.

A year after winning the league title, Colgate (4-10/0-1 Patriot League/3-1 home) is on a five-game losing streak, though the Red Raiders are favored Monday in a game that will be shown on ESPN+

Both teams played Lehigh in their previous game, Colgate losing 85-81 on Tuesday on the road and Army winning 77-55 on Friday at home.

Army Outlook

Sophomore guard Jalen Rucker led the convincing win over Lehigh with 22 points, five rebounds and four assists.

That continued what has been a fine season for Rucker. He is averaging 16.1 points, 4.5 rebounds and 2.9 assists a game.

Rucker has three straight 20-point games and five overall this season.

Senior guard Aaron Duhart added 11 points, his second straight double-figure output. Duhart reached double digits just twice in the first 13 games this season.

Army also got 10 points and seven rebounds from sophomore forward Charlie Peterson. He has season averages of 8.4 points and 6.4 rebounds.

Like Duhart, Peterson has picked up his scoring recently with back-back games in double figures. That comes after eight games in a row in single digits.

Besides Rucker, the only other Army player with a double-figure scoring average is senior guard Josh Caldwell at 12.7 points. He also has averages of 5.0 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 1.9 steals.

Army shot 54.0% (27 of 50) on Friday, including 5 of 11 (45.5%) on three-pointers. The Black Knights outrebounded Lehigh 38-22 to offset 16 turnovers.

Colgate Outlook

Perhaps playing its first home game since Dec. 6 will shake Colgate out of its funk. The Red Raiders are six games under .500 despite getting plenty of contributions from their trio of senior guards.

After exploring the transfer portal in the spring, Nelly Cummings decided to stay. The pride of Midland, Pa., is Colgate’s top scorer with a 17.5 average.

Cummings, who was held to nine points by Lehigh, is also averaging 3.5 assists and 1.5 steals.

Jack Ferguson is scoring 12.6 points a game, a figure bolstered by his 18-point effort Tuesday.

Tucker Richardson led Colgate with 20 points and seven rebounds while making all four shots from long distance. That gave Richardson consecutive games with at least 20 points.

Richardson has averages of 11.3 points, 5.4 rebounds and 4.1 assists.

Sophomore center Jeff Woodward chipped with 11 points and seven rebounds as Colgate lost despite shooting 51.6% (33 of 64). Lehigh made half its 68 field goal attempts.

Army vs Colgate Prediction

Colgate has won consecutive games against Army as well as six of the last seven and 10 of the past 12. The latest victory was 92-83 last Feb. 14 at West Point.

Ferguson led Colgate with 18 points and nine rebounds while Richardson added 16 points and eight rebounds and Woodward contributed 10 points. Army got 18 points from Rucker and Caldwell had 15.

Army has been a great story this season, but the Black Knights can’t match Colgate’s talent. Look for the Red Raiders to cover in their first home game in more than a month.

  • The Pick: Colgate -7.5 (-110)
