Before COVID-19 canceled the 2020 Big East tournament, Villanova was on a roll. They had won three straight and four of five tournament titles. Last year Georgetown shocked Creighton in the title game. The Bluejays are back in the championship game, but to be the best, you have to beat the best. Villanova will not go easily.

Creighton (22-10, 18-14 ATS) is seeking their first league tournament title since winning the Missouri Valley Conference in 2013. Villanova (25-7, 16-15-1 ATS) has its sights set even higher. They are hoping to win the NCAA title for the third time in seven seasons. Both teams will be dancing regardless of the outcome, but you always want to hang a banner this time of year.

Creighton Bluejays Betting Analysis

Since leaving the MVC after the 2012-2013 season, Creighton has been a consistently strong but not national title-winning type program. They’ve made four NCAA Tournaments in eight years, and twice won games in the Big Dance. On two occasions they have managed to win 14 league games, including last year when they advanced to their first Big East title game.

The Jays took the momentum from reaching the Big East final in 2021 into the NCAA Tournament, where they advanced to their first Sweet 16 since 2014.

This year’s team is more solid than flashy. They are good on the glass, rarely foul, and defend at a high level including erasing lots of shots at the rim.

Creighton lost two out of three games before starting the Big East Tournament, but led almost every step of the way in a 74-63 win over Marquette in the quarterfinals, and absolutely destroyed top seed Providence 85-58 in yesterday’s semifinals.

The two games against Villanova in the regular season were strange. On December 17 in Omaha, the Jays rolled 79-59. Three weeks later in Philly, it was all Cats, 75-41.

Villanova Wildcats Betting Analysis

Why is Villanova so good, again? Depending upon whether you give Rick Pitino credit for the National Title that the NCAA stripped in 2013, Jay Wright will start next season as the only active coach in the country to win multiple championships.

Wright wins consistently with a formula he has been able to repeat. His teams always shoot a high percentage and particularly emphasize three-pointers, they rarely turn the ball over, dictate a slow tempo, and guard in the half-court. Their March Madness bracket projection is not shockingly very strong, currently a #2 seed.

The Cats have played two nail bitters in the Big East tournament. They snuck by St. John’s 66-65 on Thursday and survived UConn 63-60 on Friday.

Villanova has veterans, and they went to the Sweet 16 last year despite being shorthanded by the time the NCAA Tournament came around. Jay Wright knows how to win these games, he has cut down the nets at the Big East Tournament six times.

Creighton vs Villanova Pick

Creighton is playing their best ball of the season, while Villanova always finds a way. Getting points is an intriguing option in a game that may be tight, but the one thing that feels really likely is a low-scoring affair. The Wildcats are excellent at dictating tempo, and Creighton has guarded at a high level over the last few weeks.

Pick: Under 129.5 (-110)
