Surprising DePaul plays its first road game of the season when it visits Louisville at 8:00 p.m. ET Friday at the KFC Yum! Center.

DePaul (7-1, 0-0 road) is off to a great start under first-year coach Tony Stubblefield after being a longtime Big East doormat. However, the Blue Demons have not left Wintrust Arena yet this season. They beat Duquesne there 87-67 on Tuesday after taking their first loss of the season in the previous game to Loyola Chicago.

Louisville (6-2, 3-1) has won five of its last six games, including beat North Carolina State 73-68 on the road Saturday in the Cardinals’ ACC opener.

Louisville is favored at home in a game that will be televised on the ACC Network.

DePaul Outlook

DePaul is riding a high-powered offense. The Blue Demons are averaging 85.3 points a game to stand 10th nationally and their 115.2 points per 100 possessions rank them 25th in offensive rating.

Senior guard Javon Freeman-Liberty is having a big season that includes averaging 21.8 points, 8.8 rebounds, 4.3 assists and 1.9 steals a game. He is also shooting 42.3% on three-pointers, 73.8% from the free throw line and has six consecutive 20-point games.

Freeman-Liberty is seventh nationally in scoring.

Against Duquesne, Freeman-Liberty just missed a double-double. He finished with 26 points, nine rebounds and five assists.

Sophomore forward David Jones has emerged as a second volume scoring option at 15.8 points a game. He also has averages of 7.5 rebounds and 1.6 steals.

Senior forward Brandon Johnson, a hometown kid from Chicago, has provided a boost after transferring from Minnesota. He is scoring 12.1 points and pulling down 7.1 rebounds a game.

Johnson contributed 13 points on Tuesday, the fourth time in his last five games in double figures.

Junior center Nick Ongenda reached double digits for the fifth consecutive game with 13 points and six rebounds. He has a 11.9 scoring average and is blocking 1.8 shots a game.

DePaul also got 11 points from junior guard Philmon Gebrewhit 11 while shooting 53.0% (35 of 66) from the field and 47.6% (10 of 21) on three-pointers.

Louisville Outlook

A go-to scorer has yet to emerge for Louisville, but the Cardinals are winning games behind the senior trio of guards Noah Locke and Jerrod West and forward Malik Williams. Those three are scoring 27.9 points a game combined.

Locke tops the team with an 11.3 average in his first season after transferring from Florida.

He had 12 points, all on three-pointers as he made 4 of 8 shots from beyond the arc, in the win at NC State. That came after Locke failed to score in 25 minutes in a loss to Michigan State in Louisville’s previous game.

Williams showed a strong inside game Saturday as he had 14 points and 11 rebounds for his second double-double of the season. He has averages of 9.0 points, 9.8 rebounds and 1.6 steals.

Williams helped Louisville outrebound NC State 46-30.

A Marshall transfer, West is scoring 6.6 points and handing out 3.6 assists a game. He led Conference USA in dimes last season.

Yet another transfer, sophomore forward Matt Cross, contributed 13 points and seven rebounds against the Wolfpack, and his three-pointer with 28 seconds left put Louisville ahead for good at 71-68. He spent the first semester last season at Miami before deciding to leave.

Sophomore wing Dre Davis had a solid all-round performance with 11 points, seven rebounds and three assists. Junior guard El Ellis also had 11 points.

The Cardinals are 1-1 since coach Chris Mack returned to the bench after serving a six-game suspension imposed by the university to start the season.

DePaul vs Louisville Prediction

Louisville has won 10 straight times over DePaul. However, the last meeting came back in 2012-13 with the Cardinals rolling 79-58 in Chicago. Look for Louisville to keep that streak going but not without being challenged by the high-scoring Demon Deacons.

The Pick: DePaul +9 (-110)
