Two longtime rivals from bordering states meet when Furman visits Appalachian State at 6:30 p.m. ET Tuesday at the Holmes Convocation Center in Boone, N.C.

Furman (4-2, 0-0 road) has won two games in a row, including downing Division II Tusculum 102-74 last Friday. Appalachian State (5-2, 3-2 home) is also coming off back-to-back wins, the latest 74-70 at East Tennessee State last Wednesday.

Furman Betting Outlook

Behind senior guard Mike Bothwell and senior forward Jalen Slawson, Furman is one of the best offensive teams in the nation.

The Paladins are fifth in field-goal percentage with a 51.9% mark. Their 84.3 point per game average ranks eighth.

Bothwell leads the Southern Conference in scoring at 19.8 points a game and is also averaging 4.5 assists and 4.2 rebounds. He is third in the conference in assists and his 57.3 field goal percentage ranks fourth.

Slawson leads the SoCon with 65% shooting from the floor and has averages of 15.8 points, 6.5 rebounds, 4.3 assists and 2.2 steals. He is second in steals, fourth in assists and fifth in blocked shots with 1.0 a game.

Swanson had his second double-double of the season against Tusculum. He finished with a season-high 22 points, grabbed 10 rebounds, dished five assists and made 10 of 13 field goal attempts.

Junior guard Marcus Foster also had 22 points to establish a season high and grabbed seven boards.

Bothwell added 18 points on 8-of-12 shooting and five assists. Sophomore forward Tyrese Hughey contributed 15 points and three steals while going 6 for 8 from the floor.

Furman shot 60% (39 of 65) overall, 57.9% (11 of 19) from three-point range and outrebounded Tusculum 37-25. The Paladins also forced 16 turnovers.

Foster and Hughey both have 10.3 scoring averages for Furman, which is 2-2 against the spread.

Appalachian State Betting Outlook

Five players scored in double figures in the win over East Tennessee State. That kind of balance has been emblematic of App State in the early part of the season.

Senior forward Donovan Gregory is making contributions in many ways. He averages 14.6 points, 4.0 rebounds, 3.7 assists and 1.9 steals a game.

Against East Tennessee State, Gregory had a team-high 14 points with three assists and two steals. He was a perfect 8 of 8 on free throws.

Senior guard Tyree Boykin is scoring 12.0 points, pulling down 3.6 rebounds and handing out 2.0 assists a game. Sophomore guard Terence Harcum has an 11.1 scoring average.

Freshman forward Justin Abson tops the Sun Belt Conference in blocked shots with a 2.7 average.

Boykin shot 5 of 7 last Wednesday on his way to 13 points and three steals. Senior forward Dibaji Walker added 12 points, Harcum scored 11 points and sophomore forward Christopher Mantis contributed 10 points.

App State shot just 28.6% (6 of 21) from distance but the defense made 15 steals as East Tennessee State had 19 turnovers.

The Mountaineers are 3-3 ATS.

Furman vs Appalachian State Prediction

Furman has won the last four meetings in the series, including 73-65 at home last season. Bothwell and Slawson led the Paladins with 16 points each.

While Furman can score points in bunches, it will be playing its first true road game of the season and facing a formidable opponent. Take the points.
