St Bonaventure vs Davidson Betting Analysis

The Bonnies stagger into the A10 tournament, dropping six of their final seven in the regular season. From a 7-4 conference mark, they sagged to an 8-10 conference record and the accompanying 9-seed that comes with it.

The struggles come on offense, where St Bonaventure averages 67.2 points per game, which ranks 2nd-last in the 15-team A10.  They carry a low 249 ranking on KenPom’s adjusted offensive efficiency metric, and their tempo ranks 271st.

Their scoring leader is guard Daryl Banks III, putting up 15.6 points and 3.7 rebounds, though he’s shooting just 36.4% from the field. Chad Venning (12.6) and Kyrell Luc (11.4) are the other double-digit scorers on the team.

Their defense keeps them competitive, as they allow 67.7 points per game, which ranks 108th in the NCAA. Their effective field goal percentage defense sits at 48.8%, ranking 91st.

Davidson enters the tourney with their best stretch of play — winners of four of their final five — since opening the year 6-1. They wrapped up the season by crushing Rhode Island 68-54.

Foster Loyer had quite a regular season finale, dropping 33 points, with four boards, five dimes, three assists and two steals. He averaged 16.6 points and 4.2 rebounds per game this year. Sam Mennenga put up 15.5 points and 6.6 boards on 51.5% shooting this season.

Both were flamethrowers in the win over the Bonnies. Loyer had 27 points and five assists, drilling six three-balls, while Mennenga had 24 points of his own on 9-for-13 shooting.

The Wildcats averaged 70.6 points per game during the regular season, while allowing 69.1 points per game on defense. Both figures ranked seventh in the A-10.

Pace isn’t part of their game, either, as Davidson ranks 292nd in KenPom’s adjusted tempo metric.

St Bonaventure vs Davidson Prediction

Davidson has been a great bet playing on neutral courts, having covered in eight of their last 10, while the Bonnies have struggled to a 2-5 ATS mark in their last seven neutral site games.

St Bon is also 1-4 ATS in the last five, while the Wildcats are 4-0 ATS in their last four against teams with losing records.

While all signs point to a Davidson win, there’s plenty of uncertainty in a one-game, winner-take-all when two teams hovering around .500 clash.

Looking at another angle, the total might be worth considering. The Bonnies’ defense has the 8th-best 3-point shooting defense in the NCAA, holding teams to 29.1% shooting from distance. Davidson ranks 245th in 3-point shooting, at 33.2%. That’s a big scoring component out of the way.

With both teams playing at a slower pace, expect a low score, and points to come at a premium, especially if it’s close down the home stretch in the second half, where every possession will be crucial.
