Wisconsin Is a Wagon

Wisconsin made quick work of Wisconsin-Green Bay in its last outing by jumping out to a 34-12 lead at the half. They ended up winning the game 82-42 after dominating in every area of the contest. The Badgers held the Phoenix to a 28% shooting performance from the floor and out rebounded them 45-22.

Senior forward Nate Reuvers was only needed for 19 minutes in the game but still managed to put up 13 points. Reuvers went 3-4 from three-point land which kept his season percentage at an unsustainable yet still impressive 71%. He is now on the Wooden Award watch list and boasts +5000 odds to take home the award.

Reuvers wasn’t the only star to shine  in the beating of Wisconsin-Green Bay. Micah Potter lead the team with 14 points while also chipping in eight rebounds. Sophomore forward Tyler Wahl recorded his first career double-double with an 11 point, 15 rebound effort.

Marquette Plays Fast

Marquette is a team that likes to get up and down the court in a hurry, which is the complete opposite of Wisconsin’s intentions. According to KenPom’s adjusted tempo metric, Marquette is currently playing at the 41st-fastest pace out of 357 teams. Wisconsin sits at 345th in the category. The pace seemed to bother Oklahoma State in the first half of Marquette’s last game, although the Golden Eagles couldn’t seal the deal in the second half.

Koby McEwen led the way against the Cowboys with 21 points, four rebounds, and four assists. His defense on potential first-overall NBA draft pick Cade Cunningham also should be noted. Wisconsin will remember him from last year’s meeting with Marquette as McEwen dropped 19 points to go along with seven rebounds.

Second leading scorer Dawson Garcia had a hard time getting going against Oklahoma State as he was only able to muster four points. He was picked up by forward, Jamal Cain’s 13 point, 13 rebound effort.

Best Betting Angle

As much as Wisconsin looks to be a trusty 3.5-point favorite, the total is the more intriguing wager. Both teams are coming off games where they didn’t come near the over. That’s important because it should keep the number low for this game.

Wisconsin has been incredibly efficient this season on offense and is currently the 19th-ranked team in the nation in that metric. They are a team that can be trusted to score points and ,while they are 345th in adjusted tempo, they still average 15.7 seconds per offensive possession, which is not slow. Their last game going so far under had nothing to do with the Badgers and everything to do with their opponents’ ineptitude.

We know that Marquette likes to play fast and it’s a safe bet to assume they will try to push the pace in this one. They are coming off of a below-average shooting performance in all areas against Oklahoma State but were still able to put up 62 points. If they can approach their season average in shooting percentage, this game could get into the 150s.

Pick: Over 138 (-113)
