ATS Pick #1: TCU (-7) vs Kansas

After allowing Tennessee Tech, Duke, Houston and West Virginia a combined 109 points over the first four games of the 2022 campaign, 5-0 Kansas held Iowa State to 313 total yards and just one touchdown in a 14-11 victory in Week 5. Now, KU junior linebacker Rich Miller and Co. will try to put up a second straight solid defensive effort against a high-octane TCU offense.

Horned Frogs senior quarterback Max Duggan put up a ridiculous 668 yards of total offense in last week’s stunning 55-24 victory over Oklahoma at home. TCU gained 479 yards in the first half in building a 41-17 lead. That’s the most points by a team in a half against an FBS opponent this season. For the year, TCU has averaged 48.5 points a game while allowing 22.0.

Kansas has a pretty good quarterback, too. Jalon Daniels is currently seventh in the nation in his efficiency rating at 177.5. (Duggan leads the nation at 202.2 in that stat.) The KU signal-caller also leads KU in rushing with over 300 yards and five rushing TDs on the season. Last season against TCU, Daniels accounted for three touchdowns and threw for 255 yards in a 31-28 Kansas loss. This definitely has the feel of a something-has-to-give game.

It also has the feel of an utter shootout — especially with KU ranked 79th in total defense among FBS programs. The outcome may boil down to TCU’s ability to limit Daniels. The home crowd will be amped up, but the Horned Frogs seem to be on another level right now.

  • Pick: TCU -7 (-115)

Utah vs UCLA Odds

Team Spread Moneyline Total
Utah Utes -4.5 (-110) -190 O 65 (-109)
UCLA Bruins +4.5  (-110) +155 U 65 (-114)

ATS Pick #2: Utah (-4.5) vs UCLA

Following a 40-32 win over then-No.15 Washington, UCLA is 5-0 overall and 2-0 in the Pac-12 for the first time since 2013 and has an eight-game winning streak dating to last season. Now, fifth-year senior quarterback Dorian Thompson-Robinson and his teammates will try to knock off preseason conference favorite Utah in Pasadena.

DTR is playing the best ball of his long Bruin career right now, throwing for 1,981 yards with 18 touchdowns against only four interceptions over the past eight games He has also run 64 times for 463 yards and six touchdowns in that span. He’s also fourth in the nation in completion percentage (74.3%) and 12th in passing efficiency (171.4). But the Utes have knocked off the Bruins five straight times — by an average margin of victory of 27 points.

Since a season-opening loss to Florida, Kyle Whittingham’s crew has gotten a little better each week. Utah may have played its most complete game the last time out in a 42-16 win over Oregon State, the Utes’ fourth straight victory. Meantime, Chip Kelly’s group will be motivated to prove last week’s win over the Huskies was no fluke — but Utah’s superior defense will be the difference.

  • Pick: Utah -4.5 (-110)

Tennessee vs LSU Odds

Team Spread Moneyline Total
Tennessee Volunteers -3 (-110) -155 O 64 (-108)
LSU Tigers +3  (-110) +123 U 64 (-113)

ATS Pick #3: Tennessee (-3) vs LSU

The Vols had a week off after their emotional 38-33 victory over rival Florida on Rocky Top. Now, Josh Heupel’s No. 8 squad goes into Death Valley to face former Arizona State quarterback Jayden Daniels and a group hungry to prove it’s a competitor in the SEC.

The transfer is LSU’s leading rusher with 321 yards and three touchdowns and has completed 68% of his passes for 915 yards, tossing six touchdowns and no interceptions. Meantime, UT ranks No. 128 among 131 FBS teams in pass defense, allowing 309.3 yards per game. But, how healthy is Daniels? He’s left the last two games early. I like the Volunteers to continue their resurgence on the road.

  • Pick: Tennessee -3 (-110)
