Owls Betting Analysis

The Owls come into this matchup with a 3-4 record overall and 0-2 in conference play. They are coming off a 36-10 loss against UTSA last week. Florida Atlantic’s defense showed some resilience in the second half against UTSA, but the poor offense cost them the game.

FAU is led up front by quarterback Daniel Richardson, who has thrown for 1,044 yards, five touchdowns and six interceptions so far this season while completing 63.4% of his passes. Richardson struggled with two picks in the UTSA loss.

The Owls’ leading rusher is Larry McCammon III with 472 yards and four touchdowns, while their top receiver is LaJohntay Wester with 401 yards and three touchdowns.

Defensively, the Owls rank near the bottom of the AAC when it comes to total defense (399 YPG). Their rushing defense is their biggest vulnerability, as they are allowing 163 yards per game on the ground.

49ers Betting Analysis

The 49ers come into this game with a 2-5 record overall and 1-1 in conference play. They are coming off a 10-7 win over East Carolina last week in which the defense held the Pirates to just 127 yards of total offense.

On offense, Charlotte is led by dual-threat quarterback Jalon Jones. He has thrown for 788 yards, three touchdowns and four interceptions this season, while also rushing for 306 yards and two scores. The 49ers’ leading rusher is Shadrick Byrd with 289 yards. Their top receivers are Grant DuBose and Taylor Thompson.

On the other side of the football, Charlotte’s defense has kept the team competitive in most games this season. They rank fourth in the AAC in total defense (345.1 YPG) and 49th nationally in scoring defense (22.7 PPG).

FAU vs Charlotte Prediction

This matchup features two teams with strong defenses but struggling offenses. Florida Atlantic has the edge at quarterback with Daniel Richardson, but Charlotte’s defense has been stout all season.

It may be tempting to lean towards Charlotte and the points considering the 49ers have played a tough schedule, covering spreads against teams like Maryland and Florida, but keep in mind the 49ers offense ranks 131st out of 131 FBS teams in scoring (14.6 PPG).

These low game totals are often set so low for good reason, with sportsbooks knowing bettors are going to think the “over” is a lock, which it rarely ever is. The “under” has actually cashed in eight of Charlotte’s last 10 home games.

In a low-scoring, defensive battle, the under of 45.5 points is simply the best bet. Look for the Owls to do just enough offensively to pull out a close road victory.

  • FAU vs Charlotte Pick: Under 45.5 Points (-110)
