Kansas State Betting Outlook

The Wildcats enter Saturday’s Week 5 game boasting a solid 3-1 record. Kansas State made national headlines last weekend when they stunned No. 6 Oklahoma in a 41-34 victory. The Wildcats have  taken three of their past four meetings with the Sooners.

While Kansas State just seems to match up well against Oklahoma, there are plenty of positives to take away from their overall performance. QB Adrian Martinez had the game of his career, accounting for 382 all-purpose yards and five touchdowns.

The Wildcats’ offensive output vs Oklahoma was especially impressive considering OU coach Brent Venables had his team playing strong defense entering the matchup. KSU amassed 509 total yards of offense Saturday, including 275 yards rushing.

Defensively, the Wildcats remain a work in progress. Kansas State still gave up 550 yards of offense to Oklahoma, and they currently rank middle-of-the-pack in Big 12 total defense despite the fact they’re only allowing 15.8 points per game.

Texas Tech Betting Outlook

The Red Raiders (3-1) also enter Saturday’s game coming off a big win. Texas Tech took down their in-state Texas rivals in overtime last weekend thanks to a game-winning field goal by Trey Wolff. It was TTU’s first home win over the Longhorns since 2008.

The Red Raiders showed their resiliency last weekend as they overcame a two-touchdown deficit to spring the upset of Texas. TTU quarterback Donavan Smith threw for 300-plus yards and two TDs after throwing five picks in his previous two games.

Texas Tech is proving to have one of the most explosive offenses in the Big 12 this season, as the Red Raiders are averaging 476 yards of offense and close to 40 points per game. Not only is Smith the Big 12 passing yards leader, but WR Myles Price is top-five in receiving yards.

When it comes to the defensive side of the ball, the Red Raiders are allowing slightly fewer yards (326) on average than Kansas State. TTU is allowing 25.3 points per game, however, which speaks to the team’s turnover issues on offense.

Kansas State vs Texas Tech Prediction

With Kansas sports betting officially live, there’s sure to be plenty of Wildcats fans that bet on their team to cover the spread in Week 5 following the team’s big win over Oklahoma. This is a classic letdown spot, though, and the metrics point to the underdog being the smart play.

Not only do the Red Raiders have an offense capable of keeping pace with the Wildcats, but they are also more battle-tested. Texas Tech has beaten two ranked opponents already this season in Houston and Texas.

Kansas State is going to rely heavily on star running back Deuce Vaughn and their explosive ground game, which plays into the hands of TTU’s stout rush defense. The Red Raiders are only allowing 99 rushing yards per game, and they feature one of the conference’s best pass rushers in Tyree Wilson.

Kansas State is favored at home for good reason, but the Red Raiders have the weapons to keep this one within a touchdown. Look for Donovan Smith to build off his Texas performance and keep the Red Raiders in this one until late in the fourth quarter.

Pick: Texas Tech +8 (-110)
