Mississippi State vs Arizona Odds and Picks
- The Mississippi State Bulldogs are 10.5-point road favorites over the Arizona Wildcats in a college football game scheduled for Saturday, September 10
- It’s the first-ever meeting between these two schools
- SEC schools are a combined 14-1 straight up so far on the college football season
The Mississippi State Bulldogs (1-0) will be kicking off against the Arizona Wildcats (1-0) at what amounts to nearly midnight local time back home.
Who knew that Mother Nature would step in an offer the Bulldogs a chance to prepare for the late night of a Western road trip? Last week’s Mississippi State 49-23 victory over the Memphis Tigers didn’t end until the wee hours of Sunday morning thanks to a lengthy weather-related delay.
As they head to the Arizona desert, the Bulldogs can feel as if they’ve already played a game in the Pacific time zone.
Oddsmakers seem to be on board with this notion. It’s the visiting Bulldogs who are being set as 10.5-point road favorites over the Wildcats. Mississippi State is 6-1 against the spread over the school’s last eight away games.

Mississippi State’s offense was working with plenty of efficiency in Week 1. The Bulldogs were 11-of-13 in third-down conversions. They also displayed plenty of ball control. The offense was on the field for 41 minutes.
This may be the first time Mississippi State has faced Arizona, but Bulldogs coach Mike Leach knows the Wildcats well from his days in charge at Washington State. The last time he faced Arizona, Leach’s Cougars put up 69 points in a 69-28 drubbing of the Wildcats.
Familiar Face At QB For Wildcats
Wildcats quarterback Jayden de Laura, a Washington State transfer, is no stranger to Mississippi State coach Leach. It was in fact Leach who recruited de Laura to the Cougars just a few months prior to his departure to take over the Bulldogs.

De Laura threw for 299 yards and four TDs in a season-opening 38-20 drubbing of San Diego State. But he completed just 62.9% of his passes.
At wideout, Arizona’s Jacob Cowing rates among the best in the nation. Against the Aztecs, he was a difference maker. Cowing caught eight passes for 152 yards – a 19.0 per catch average – and three TDs.
Mississippi State vs Arizona Prediction
Mississippi State is coming off a seven-win season. Arizona was 1-11 last season. This should be a cakewalk for the Bulldogs.
However, over the years, Leach’s teams have earned a reputation for taking pratfalls and losing games they should win easily.

The SEC, though, is already 2-0 SU against the Pac-12 this season. There’s a definite advantage in both the physicality of the players and the depth of talent on SEC rosters.
Take the Bulldogs to cover in what figures to be a high-scoring game, so maybe have a look at playing the over as well.
Pick: Mississippi State Bulldogs -10.5 (-110).
