Can Oklahoma State continue their trend as successful underdogs against Texas on Saturday night? They go into the game as 6.5-point underdogs.
  • Oklahoma State (3-0) is a six point underdog against Texas (2-1) Saturday night
  • The Cowboys have the nation’s leading rusher and leading receiver – giving them two dynamic players worth watching
  • Texas lost their only other game against a ranked opponent 45-38 to LSU in week 2

Mike Gundy’s Oklahoma State Cowboys are riding high at 3-0 on the year, and now head into Austin to play the #12 Texas on ABC’s Saturday Night Football. Oklahoma State has a good track record against Texas as of late, winning seven of their last ten head-to-head matchups.

They are 6.5 point underdogs to the Longhorns, and if history is any indication – that’s totally okay by them.

Oklahoma State vs Texas Odds

Team Spread Moneyline Total
Oklahoma State +6.5 (-105) +195 O 72.5 (-115)
#12 Texas -6.5 (-115) -235 U 72.5 (-105)

Odds taken 09/20/19.

The Oklahoma State vs Texas odds show this could be a one sided affair but I’m leaning the other way. The Cowboys have won 7 of their last 8 games straight up as underdogs.

Could Texas fall victim to Oklahoma State Saturday? The decision to bet the moneyline is all yours but here’s the case why taking the Cowboys +6.5 is definitely the smart play.

Longhorns Defense Could Be Exposed

Texas head coach Tom Herman is known as an offensive genius and while he’s worked wonders on that side of the football, the Longhorns defense has been suspect this year.

In ESPN’s efficiency rankings they currently sit 78th in the nation. That could spell big trouble with Oklahoma State and their 13th ranked offense coming to town.

The most glaring poor performance came in week 2 against LSU. Texas didn’t only lose the game, they gave up 45 points in the process. It’s tough to judge their wins over Louisiana Tech and Rice, but that loss to the Tigers speaks volumes.

Facing their second quality opponent of the season, will Texas be able to fix all their issues in time to not only keep this competitive but to cover 6 points? I don’t think so.

Chuba Hubbard & Tylan Wallace Players to Watch

The nation’s leading rusher? RB Chuba Hubbard who already has 521 yards on the season. The nation’s leading receiver? WR Tylan Wallace who has racked up 390 receiving yards through three games.

With freshman sensation Spencer Sanders distributing the ball at QB to two of the top playmakers in the country, Texas’ defense will have to show they aren’t as susceptible to the big play that killed them against LSU.

The Tigers were able to move up and down the field at ease in only their second game with a new offense. That leads me to believe the well oiled machine Mike Gundy has rolling should do much of the same Saturday night. They have faced weak opponents in Oregon State, McNeese State and Tulsa but the Cowboys have scored 148 points this season. It’s tough to see that slowing down much this weekend.

Can Sam Ehlinger do Enough to Keep Up?

The one chance Texas has is a monster performance from Sam Ehlinger. He has thrown for 11 touchdowns and 0 interceptions to go along with 956 yards through the air.

He’s entering Heisman candidate territory and the Longhorns are going to need that kind of performance against Oklahoma State. While I trust in Ehlinger and Herman to find a way to put points on the board, I just don’t think they can keep the Cowboys off it in a way that justifies the 6.5 points.

Take the Pokes to cover and if you’re feeling really aggressive, see if they can run that record to 8-1 straight up as an underdog.

PICK: Oklahoma State +6.0 (-110)
