We’re about to find out if the Ole Miss Rebels’ dreams die in Death Valley.

The undefeated Rebels will visit the spunky LSU Tigers, who are coming off their best win in the Brian Kelley era, after knocking off the Florida Gators on the road.

While Ole Miss’s slate has only seen a single game against a ranked team, they’ve done the work — they’re one of 14 teams in the nation to put up better than 500 yards of offense, and they rank 34th in total defense.

It all gets underway Saturday (October 22) from Tiger Stadium in Baton Rouge, in a game that can be seen live on CBS.

Perhaps somewhat of a surprise, the college football odds have the 7-0 Rebels as slight 1.5-point road ‘dogs, in a game that features a total of 68.

It’s expected to be a downright balmy 74 degrees and clear come kickoff at 3:30pm ET.

Rebels’ Betting Outlook

The Ole Miss gameplan is simple: ground and pound you into submission.

Heading into Week 8, the Rebels boast the NCAA’s third-best rushing attack, piling up better than 272 ground yards per game. Their running backs have also found paydirt 24 times, which is tops in the nation.

They ran all over Auburn last week in a 48-34 romp. Quinshon Judkins carried 25 times for 139 yards and a pair of touchdowns, while Zach Evans added 136 on 21 totes and a score.

Quarterback Jaxon Dart was a third rusher to top a century, running for 115 yards on 14 carries, as Ole Miss rung up 448 yards on the ground, on a healthy 6.5 yards per carry. Dart also threw for for 130 yards and three touchdowns.

How much does a dominating ground game help? Consider Ole Miss is third in the country at converting third downs, at a crisp 55.2%.

On the year, the Rebels’ average margin of victory against unranked teams in 27 points. They did, however, barely eke out a 22-19 win over the then 7th-ranked Kentucky Wildcats on Oct 1.

Tigers’ Betting Outlook

While it’s a stable of backs that can set back LSU, it’s the Tigers’ QB that can sink the Rebels’ perfect season.

Jayden Daniels is a do-everything star in Baton Rouge, and he’s helped move LSU to the cusp of a potential national ranking.

Not only has he thrown for 1,564 yards with 10 TDs against just one interception, but he’s also the driving force of the rush attack. Daniels has accounted for a third of LSU’s ground yards, and 30%+ of their attempts and rushing scores.

Last week against Florida, he put together the most dominating performance in his first year at LSU, going 23-for-42 for 329 yards and three TD passes, while also rushing 13 times for 44 yards and three more trips to paydirt in their 45-35 win.

That win marked the 10th straight time LSU has come out victorious when crossing the 30-point plateau.

Ole Miss vs LSU Pick

We’re about to find out if this is an Ole Miss coming out party, or a campaign that fizzles out as the competition stiffens.

The Tigers are more than capable of playing spoiler, having won six straight games over Ole Miss at home. They also have the ability to make some big plays: on the year, LSU has 18 pass plays and 10 run plays that have gone for better than 20+ yards.

Defensively, they are 16th in the nation in red zone defense, which could help slow down the Rebels’ offense operating at an 87.9% clip inside the red zone (36th). In 33 trips, they’ve come away with 26 TD’s and three field goals.

While the home team has won eight of the previous 10 games in this head-to-head, look for the Ole Miss running game to carry them again.

LSU is giving up 145.6 yards per game, and were just gashed for 210 yards and four touchdowns last week by Florida.

The Pick:

  • Ole Miss ML (+100); 1 unit to win 1 unit
  • Week 7 NCAAF Record: 1-0: Overall: 4-3 ATS, 1-1 o/u; +0.55 units
