Sanders Impresses vs Nebraska

Shedeur Sanders, the star quarterback and son of Deion Sanders, was the linchpin of the Buffaloes’ offense Saturday. Sanders threw for 393 yards and two touchdowns against Nebraska, plus showcased his agility with a rushing touchdown.

Through two weeks of the college football season, Sanders has completed 69 of 89 passes for 901 passing yards and seven total touchdowns, along with zero interceptions. His performance was a continuation of the Buffaloes’ Week 1 upset over TCU, proving that Colorado is a force to be reckoned with this season.

Sanders’ connection with wide receiver Xavier Weaver on Saturday was particularly noteworthy, as Weaver racked up 170 yards and a touchdown on the day. There were five different CU players who caught passes from Sanders against Nebraska, which shows CU is spreading the ball around.

Sanders has also been skyrocketing in 2024 NFL mock drafts following his strong start to the season. There were many questioning if he could maintain the same level of performance as he put together at Jackson State. He answered those questions, as his lethal accuracy, poise, and decision-making, have scouts salivating.

Shedeur Sanders Heisman Odds

Shader Sanders’ Heisman odds have seen some wild movement in the early goings of the 2023 college football season. Sanders’ Heisman odds shortened from +1500 to +4000 after Week 1, and shortened even further to +2000 after Week 2. This type of odds movement is almost unheard of so early in the season.

What has also likely helped Sanders’ Heisman chances is that his star teammate, Travis Hunter, had an underwhelming performance vs Nebraska compared to his monstrous showing vs TCU. Hunter is now sitting with longer +2800 Heisman odds after being listed at the same price as Sanders following Week 1.

While Sanders’ Heisman odds movement is certainly notable, he’s still facing a major uphill battle to actually win. Reigning winner Caleb William is having another monstrous start to the season, while FSU pivot Jordan Travis could gain serious MVP consideration if he leads the Seminoles to the CFP.

Colorado faces its hardest stretch of the season in two weeks when it plays Pac-12 powerhouses Oregon and USC back-to-back. If you’re a believer in Sanders, you’ll want to lock in your bet before those games. If Sanders somehow leads the Buffs to upset wins, his Heisman odds will shorten significantly.

We’re airing on the side of caution with Sanders given the other talented quarterbacks in the Heisman race this season. He’s already been sacked 12 times in two games and we don’t trust the Colorado offensive line to protect their QB against the top defensive lines in the Pac-12.
