Ohio’s Betting Value Without Rourke

The overriding issue here is the status of Ohio quarterback Kurtis Rourke, who suffered a right knee injury in the second quarter of a 32-18 victory at Kent State the last time out. Rourke will be the consensus MAC player of the year, and if he cannot play the Bobcats are expected to go with CJ Harris, who took over for Rourke last week and threw eight passes, completing five, while rushing for 38 yards.

Ohio has run the MAC table since a 31-24 loss to Kent State in the conference opener on Oct. 1, winning and covering six straight — five by at least 14 points — behind Rourke. He has thrown for 3,256 yards, 25 touchdowns and four interceptions this season, and his passer efficiency rating of 167.6 leads the league and is eighth in NCAA Division I.

Rourke’s loss would appear debilitating, but the Bobcats have received solid recent play from running back Sieh Bangura, a redshirt freshman. Bangura had 148 yards rushing and two touchdowns against Ball State and has rushed for at least 145 yards in the last two after missing a 45-24 home victory over Buffalo because of the recurrence of a foot injury that limited him early.

Bowling Green turned this into the East Division title game with a 42-35 victory at arch-rival Toledo the last time out, when quarterback Matt McDonald threw for a career-high 392 yards and four touchdowns, the last a 42-yarder with nine seconds remaining to overcome a 35-34 deficit. The Falcons have won four of five, beating Toledo a week after it was blown out by Kent State 40-6.

Ohio is 5-1 SU in the last six in the season series and 4-1 ATS in the last five. Bowling Green snapped a five-game series losing streak with a 21-10 as a 6.5-point home underdog last season. Ohio has learned to win and Harris has been with the program since 2019. The Bobcats are still the play.

  • Pick: Ohio -7 (-112)

Ball State vs Miami Odds

Team Spread Moneyline Total
Ball State Cardinals +2.5 (+100) +115 Over 44.5 (-105)
Miami RedHawks -2.5 (-122) -138 Under 44.5 (-115)

Odds from FanDuel Sportsbook on Nov. 21.

RedHawks Have Dominated Cardinals

Ball State had won four of five before running into division leaders Toledo and Ohio the last two weeks, losing both. The Cardinals covered in a seven-point loss to Toledo but could not overcome three turnovers in the loss to Ohio the last time out, and their inability to control the ball enabled the Bobcats to 13-minute advantage in time of possession.

Cardinals’ sophomore running back Carson Steele leads the MAC and is ninth in Division I with 1,376 yards rushing, and quarterback John Paddock has thrown 12 touchdowns in MAC play with a league-high seven picks.

RPO threat Aveon Smith has injected some energy into a team that ranks last in the league in total offense in MAC games. He had 290 combined yards and three touchdowns in a 29-23 victory over Northern Illinois the last time out, and the RedHawks are 4-3 when he starts. Miami is 5-1 SU and 4-2 ATS in the game for the Redbird Trophy. Neither has beaten a MAC team with a winning record, and the winner of this game will be bowl eligible.

  • Pick: Miami -2.5 (-122)
  • Season MACtion: 6-1 ATS
