Utah is -675 on the moneyline in the college football odds, giving them 87.1% implied probability to win.

Utah Thinks It Has Righted The Ship

After a bit of a surprise three-point loss in Florida for the opening week, Utah has struck back in a big way. The Utes have yielded a mere touchdown in each of the past two contests. This is while scoring an average of 54 points a night in their two wins. Playing a non-major and a down San Diego State squad does help a good deal. That being said, Utah has looked a good deal more like itself.

Utah’s odds have shortened a bit to +230 in the Pac 12 Title odds, which still ranks second.

The good news for Utah is that Arizona State may offer them a bit of a battle. It is what the Utes need after two dominant weeks in a row. Cam Rising threw for four touchdowns in all during the 35-7 win over the Aztecs. He only completed 60% of his passes but the running game picked up the slack with 174 yards. The first quarter was unimaginably like a sleepwalk. The next two quarters saw Utah appear to do everything right.

So, Utah at some point needs to get off to a good start here. They struggled against Florida as well early at times and it came back to haunt them at the end. This was because Utah could not score touchdowns in the second quarter and had to settle for field goals. That may not harm the Utes against the Sun Devils but it could against a team like USC.

On offense, players like Devaughan Vele must be allowed to get more involved. He had three catches for 38 yards and two touchdowns. He uses his 6-foot 4 frame quite well and needs to see more than 4-5 targets a game. That will be vital for a quarterback like Rising to get it to his big targets.

The defense should not be challenged much by Arizona State, who average 26 points per game and only have RB Xazavian Valladay to truly be concerned with.

Arizona State In Some Turmoil

Interim head coach Shawn Aguano will not have it easy as he takes over for Herm Edwards. Edwards only won one of his first three games and basically was fired on the field after the loss to Eastern Michigan at home. The next three teams the Sun Devils face are all ranked (Utah, No. 7 USC, and No. 18 Washington).

The Sun Devils must do a better job of throwing the ball. Arizona State averages less than 200 yards a contest and has just three touchdowns through the air. That will not get things done as teams key on Valladay more and more.

Can Arizona State get their act together and focus on just playing football? That is the big question. The problem is Utah can run the ball for 200 yards potentially in this spot. The Sun Devils give up 175 yards a game on 40 attempts. Teams will keep running until they can be stopped.

Arizona State’s projected NCAAF win total of 6.5 screams take the under. The Sun Devils might only win five or six times.

Utah vs Arizona State Prediction

ESPN’s Power Football Index projects Arizona State to finish only better than Colorado in the conference.

Both teams likely struggle to get to 30 points this week.

Bettors may want to look at the Under and a possible Sun Devils cover.
