Pick #1: UCLA +4.5 (vs Utah)

Kicking off our Week 4 college football picks against the spread is a play on the UCLA Bruins as 4.5-point underdogs against the Utah Utes. The Bruins won this matchup by a 42-32 score last season, and that was with the Utes having a healthy Cam Rising in their starting lineup.

Rising has yet to play this season, and it’s unclear if he’ll make his season debut against UCLA or not. No matter which QB plays, we still like targeting this UCLA team that has been explosive offensively to start the season. The Bruins are 20th naturally in scoring, averaging over 40 points per game.

Utah counters with a top-10 defense in scoring, allowing only 10.3 points per game and holding teams to just 270 yards per game. They’ve yet to face a strong offensive team, however, and we don’t see them being able to slow down the Bruins RB tandem of Carson Steel and TJ Harden, who are top-50 in FBS in terms of yards per game.

During the 2022 meeting, the Bruins were able to rush for over 200 yards against the Utes. Yes, this game is being played in Salt Lake City, where UCLA hasn’t won since 2015, but the Bruins have won their last two conference openers on the road and offer value to stay within the number on Saturday.

  • Pick: UCLA +4.5 (-110)

Auburn vs Texas A&M Odds

Team Spread Moneyline Total
Auburn +7.5 (-110) +245 Over 52.5 (-108)
Texas A&M -7.5 (-110) -305 Under 52.5 (-110)

Pick #2: Auburn +7.5 (vs Texas A&M)

Texas A&M is favored by 7.5 points against Auburn in the SEC conference opener for both teams in Week 4. The Aggies impressed in a 52-10 victory over New Mexico last weekend but the team is just two weeks removed from an ugly 48-33 loss to Miami in which the defense struggled mightily.

We have this game handicapped as Texas A&M being a two-point favorite on a neutral field, so even if we give the Aggies a few points for home-field advantage, this line is simply too high. Not to mention, the Tigers have emerged victorious in four of their past six trips to College Station.

Connor Weigman is a promising quarterback, but he hasn’t exactly looked great against above-average defenses in his early collegiate career. Take last season’s game against the Tigers, in which Weigman only completed 14 of 36 passes for 121 yards in a 13-10 defeat.

This is Auburn quarterback Payton Thorne’s third year as a starter, and after watching what Tyler Van Dyke did to the A&M defense, we expect Thorne to continue his strong start to the 2023 season. The  Aggies may be able to squeeze out the win, but the Tigers have the defense and experienced QB to stay within the number.

  • Pick: Auburn +7.5 (-110)

Oklahoma vs Cincinnati Odds

Team Spread Moneyline Total
Oklahoma -14.5 (-110) -575 Over 57.5 (-110)
Cincinnati +14.5 (-110) +425 Under 57.5 (-110)

Pick #3: Cincinnati +14.5 (vs Oklahoma)

Concluding our Week 4 college football picks against the spread is a play on the Cincinnati Bearcats in their Big 12 opener against the Oklahoma Sooners. It might be tough to bet against OU given their hot start, but it’s important to note the Sooners have only played one game against a Power Five opponent.

Cincinnati is off to a surprising 2-1 start under first-year head coach Scott Satterfield as many expected the team to experience a major drop-off following the departure of Luck Fickell. The Bearcats’ stingy defense, allowing just over 300 yards per game, has us optimistic UC won’t be on the receiving end of too many blowouts this season.

The Bearcats feature a talented quarterback in Emory Jones, who has thrown for 735 yards and seven touchdowns with three picks thus far. He’s joined in the backfield by talented running back Corey Kiner, who has rushed for 289 yards on 47 carries (6.1 YPC).

We saw Oklahoma struggle to put up points against good defenses all last season, and Cincinnati will provide the Sooners with their toughest defensive test yet. Having already racked up 10 sacks in three games, we expect this UC defense to give the Sooners everything they can handle and more at Nippert Stadium on Saturday.

  • Pick: Cincinnati +14.5 (-110)

Current CFB ATS Picks Record: 5-7
