Week 2 of the College Football Season lacked high-profile games, but there were still some very exciting matchups that came down to the wire.  #12 Oregon beating #3 Ohio State 35-28 in Columbus was arguably the talk of the weekend, with the Ducks silencing over 100,000 Buckeyes fans in attendance. Elsewhere, #10 Iowa managed to slide past state rivals, #9 Iowa State.

For Week 3, #1 Alabama visiting the #13 Florida Gators in Gainesville will definitely take center stage on Saturday, with the SEC powerhouses both unbeaten through two games. While all top-25 teams are in action, the only other notable contest between ranked programs is #25 Auburn visiting #11 Penn State.

Classic Rivalry Between Bama And Florida

By no surprise, all eyes have been on #1 Alabama early on as they’ve cruised to two massive victories over Miami and Mercer, outscoring their opponents 92-27. Now, the Crimson Tide will take a trip to Gainesville on Saturday for a matchup with SEC foes, the #13 Florida Gators. The last time these two teams met was in December of 2020, with Bama winning a 52-46 thriller behind a fantastic performance from Mac Jones. Nick Saban’s squad opens as 14.5 -point favorite and hasn’t lost to a Florida-based school since 2008.

Neither program has been up against much of a test quite yet, but this should be quite the game. QB Bryce Young has been solid for Bama thus far, throwing for seven TD’s and no interceptions through the first two games of the season. On the other hand, the Gators have used both Emory Jones and Anthony Richardson to this point at quarterback but Jones has struggled, throwing four interceptions. Richardson however, has been electric when given the chance and could get the start on Saturday.

Electric Auburn Visits Penn State

The #25 Auburn Tigers will get their first legitimate opponent on Saturday in #11 Penn State, with the Nittany Lions opening as a slight 4.5-point home favorite. The Tigers have been terrific offensively so far, beating Akron 60-10 then blanking Alabama State, 62-0. QB Bo Nix has been having his way, completing 29 of 39 attempts while throwing for five touchdowns. This is one of the biggest non-conference matchups of the CFB season, with ESPN GameDay even traveling to University Park to be on hand for it.

Penn State took on a tough Wisconsin team to start the year, pulling out a 16-10 victory behind a wonderful defensive performance. Then on Saturday, they cruised to a 44-13 win over Ball State. Sean Clifford put on a clinic, completing 21 of 29 passes for 230 yards.

Auburn and Penn State have only played each other twice in their history, with each team winning a game apiece. Their most recent meeting was in the 2002 Capital One Bowl, where the Tigers won 13-9. Beaver Stadium will be rocking on Saturday for arguably the most exciting matchup of Week 3.
