It was just a week ago when Jim Harbaugh was reportedly packing his bags for Ann Arbor. Now, the beleaguered 49ers head coach is hoping to build momentum after last Sunday’s victory over the Kansas City Chiefs.

Harbaugh said, “Everybody in the organization is doing their job, everybody is working hard at the craft of helping us be the best we can possibly be as a football team, and that’s all you can ask of anybody. They’re doing their best, and nobody appreciates that like I do.

“It’s an enjoyable team to be around. The way they play, the way they fight, the way they play together.”

Tonight, the 49ers (3-2, 1-1 away) fly to the Midwest to take on the St. Louis Rams (1-3, 0-2 home) on Monday Night Football. Last Sunday, after being down 34-7 against the Philadelphia Eagles, the Rams nearly upset Chip Kelly’s team on the shoulders of rookie quarterback Austin Davis. The young pivot threw for 375 yards and three TDs as the Rams clawed back. In the end, it wasn’t quite enough and the Rams lost 34-28.

Two weeks ago, it was the opposite story for the Rams as they blew a 21-point lead against the Dallas Cowboys, eventually losing 34-31.

Even though they have suffered two tough losses in a row, Davis is still upbeat, stating, “I think we’re a good football team. The record is what it is, but we’re just a handful of plays away.”

There’s no doubt the Rams will have to rise up tonight to defeat a 49ers team that’s starting to coalesce. Considering the offensive firepower of both teams (yes, Austin Davis now qualifies as firepower), taking the over in the relatively low total (43.5) makes the most sense.
