Tomorrow, the New York Jets (1-5, 0-2 away) will attempt to end their longest losing streak in seven years against AFC East division rival New England (4-2, 2-0 home). Ryan’s days as the leader of the J-E-T-S appear to be numbered, as management has stated the underachieving Geno Smith is to remain the quarterback of a team that is offensively horrific.
Ryan admitted he’s feeling the heat. He said, “Yeah, I would say so. It’s not by a lack of effort. We’re trying everything we can. It just hasn’t happened for us yet.”
He added, “My message is pretty simple: Hey, we might be counted out, (but) we’re not dead. … We are going to fight our tails off.”
Speaking of feeling the heat, it was just two weeks ago that critics were sticking a fork in the New England Patriots. Then, the Tom Brady-led team pummeled an undefeated Bengals squad before cruising by the Buffalo Bills last weekend. Brady threw for a gaudy 361 yards and four touchdowns against Buffalo.
Receiver Brandon LaFell, who is in his first year with the Pats, praised the veteran signal caller, “He’s a winner, man. That guy comes out every week and puts us in a situation to win games.”
The win over the Bills came at a steep price, though, as the team lost both running back Stevan Ridley (knee) and Jerod Mayo (knee) for the rest of the season. Only time will tell whether the Bills game will prove a Pyrrhic victory for the 2014 Patriots or whether the team can find success without two key cogs.
Even though the point spread is double digits, look for Brady, who has won six straight regular-season home games against the Jets, to make it seven. Take the Patriots and lay the points.
