Colts Big Chalk

The Indianapolis Colts are the biggest favorites at -9.5 points over the New York Jets.

Part of that has to do with the Colts rolling to a 28-11 victory over the visiting Minnesota Vikings as a 3.5-point favorites on Sunday. That followed an upset loss to the Jaguars at Jacksonville in Week 1.

Rookie running back Jonathan Taylor made the most of his first start Sunday. He rushed for 101 yards and his first career touchdowns on 26 carries and became the first Colts’ rookie in eight years to crack the 100-yard mark.

The Jets, meanwhile, looked inept again Sunday as they fell to 0-2. They lost to the San Francisco 49ers 31-13 at home as seven-point underdogs.

Things went bad right from the start for the Jets. They gave up an 80-yard touchdown run to Raheem Mostert in the 49ers’ first play from scrimmage.

Magic Number is 2.5

Three games have opened with 2.5-point spreads, including the Jacksonville Jaguars being favored at home against the Miami Dolphins.

The Jaguars were impressive again in Week 2 despite losing 33-30 on the road to the Tennessee Titans. Jacksonville was a seven-point dog and wound up being a winner against the spread.

Rookie running back James Robinson, who was bypassed in this year’s NFL Draft, rushed for 102 yards and a touchdown for the Jaguars.

The other 2.5 favorites are the Buffalo Bills at home against the Los Angeles Rams and the Titans on the road against the Vikings.

The Bills improved to 2-0 with a 31-28 road win over the Dolphins on Sunday, though they failed to cover as 5.5-point favorites. Josh Allen threw for 417 yards and four touchdowns, both career highs.

The Titans escaped with the win over the Jaguars when Stephen Gostkowski kicked a game-winning 49-yard field goal with 1:51 remaining.

Murray Piles Up Points

As far as totals, the Detroit Lions-at-Arizona Cardinals game has the highest number at 53 points. The lowest is 42.5 for the 49ers’ game at the New York Giants.

Quarterback Kyler Murray had a big day Sunday as he ran for two scores and threw for 286 yards and a touchdown in a 30-15 victory over the Washington Football Team.

The Lions, meanwhile, were pummelled 42-21 on the road by the Green Bay Packers. Detroit allowed Aaron Jones to rush for 168 yards and three touchdowns.

Though the 49ers put up 31 points on the Jets, both Mostert and quarterback Jimmy Garappolo were injured and sat out the second half. Their status for Week 3 is uncertain at this point.

The Giants dropped to 0-2 on Sunday but the defense kept things close in a 17-13 road loss to the Chicago Bears.

Potential Line Moves

The Tampa Buccaneers have opened as six-point road favorite against the Denver Broncos. That line could continue to rise for two reasons.

One, the public loves Tom Brady and he got his first win with the Bucs on Sunday. He had 217 yards passing and one touchdown as 7.5-point favorite Tampa Bay beat the visiting Carolina Panthers 31-17.

The Titans are also road favorites by 2.5 points against the Minnesota Vikings. While the Titans have eked out two wins by a total of five points to start the season, the Vikings are 0-2 and look like a team that is reeling.

Look for the public to fade the Vikings, even as home underdogs.
