  • The opening lines have been posted for Week 6 of the NFL season
  • The Baltimore Ravens and Indianapolis Colts are 7.5-point favorites over the Philadelphia Eagles and Cincinnati Bengals
  • The total is 56.5 points for the Green Bay Packers’ visit to Tampa Bay, which pits Aaron Rodgers against Tom Brady

Week 5 is nearly over in the NFL season and lines have been posted for most of the Week 6 slate.

No teams should be happier to move on to the next week than last year’s two championship teams, the Kansas City Chiefs and San Francisco 49ers.

Both teams were upset at home, the Chiefs by the Las Vegas Raiders 40-32 as 10.5-point favorites and the 49ers by the eight-point underdog Miami Dolphins. It marked the first time two Super Bowl teams gave up 40 points at home in the same week in the following season.

Battle of the Bays

The Green Bay Packers visit the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday in a highly anticipated matchup between future Hall of Fame quarterbacks Aaron Rodgers and Tom Brady.

Rodgers has passed for 1,214 yards and 13 touchdowns with no interceptions. Brady has 12 scoring passes and four picks while throwing for 1,375 yards.

That game is on both ends of the spectrum in the eyes of the oddsmakers.

The Packers are the narrowest favorites of Week 6 as a one-point pick. Conversely, the 56.5-point total is the largest on the slate.

Green Bay is 4-0 and had a bye in Week 5. The Packers are averaging an NFL-best 38.0 points a game while allowing an average of 25.2.

The Buccaneers fell to 3-2 and had their three-game winning snapped when they blew a 13-0 lead and lost 20-19 at the Chicago Bears on Thursday night as a 3.5-point favorite. Tampa Bay is scoring 27.8 points and allowing 22.4 a game.

Ravens, Colts Hefty Favorites

The Baltimore Ravens and Indianapolis Colts are the largest favorites in Week 6, both at 7.5 points. The Ravens (4-1) visit the Philadelphia Eagles (1-3-1) and the Colts (3-2) host the Cincinnati Bengals (1-3-1).

Baltimore handled the Bengals 27-3 as a 12.5-point favorite Sunday. Philadelphia lost 37-29 to the Steelers in Pittsburgh as 7.5-point underdog. One-point dog Indianapolis fell on the road to the Cleveland Browns 32-23.

The Colts had their three-game winning streak end. They entered the game leading the NFL in total defense, pass defense, interceptions and scoring defense but allowed Baker Mayfield to throw for a season-high 247 yards and two touchdowns.

The Ravens rode their defense to the win over the Bengals. They sacked Joe Burrow seven times and forced the rookie quarterback into two turnovers.

Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz passed for 258 yards and two touchdowns. However, he was also intercepted twice, raising his season total to nine in five games.

Bears-Panthers Total Low

The lowest total is 43 points between the Chicago Bears and Carolina Panthers.

While the Bears are 4-1, the offense has been lackluster and quarterback Mitchell Trubisky was benched in Week 3 for Nick Foles.

Chicago is averaging 21.0 points game, which is just 25th in the NFL. The Bears are allowing an average of 20.0, which is sixth.

The Panthers have won three in a row to improve to 3-2. They are scoring 24.4 points a game and giving up an average of 23.6.

Changing Lines

The Detroit Lions and Jacksonville Jaguars are bad teams. Yet the Lions being 3.5-point road favorites seems like a high line for a team that never met a lead it couldn’t blow. Look for that spread to come down a tad.

Though the Falcons are 0-5, the Minnesota Vikings aren’t much better as they took a 1-3 record into Sunday night’s game at the Seattle Seahawks. Look for some early money to go on the Falcons at 6.5.
