  • The Jets are big favorites to select an offensive lineman, shoring up the protection for Aaron Rodgers if he joins the team
  • Keep reading for the latest first-position drafted odds for all four AFC East clubs

The New York Jets believe they are exactly one Aaron Rodgers away from being a Super Bowl contender. If that’s true, they’re going to want to do whatever it takes to protect the four-time MVP. Read on for an analysis of the AFC East Draft.

That’s why online sportsbooks are expecting the Jets to beef up their o-line with their first-round pick this year. Odds have been released for which position each AFC East team will draft first, and offensive lineman is a heavy favorite to be New York’s number-one choice.

NY Jets First Position Draft Odds

Player Odds
Offensive Lineman -260
Defensive Lineman / EDGE +255
Wide Receiver +1200
Cornerback +3000
Quarterback +4000
Tight End +4000
Running Back +5000
Safety +6000
Linebacker +6500
Kicker/Punter/Long Snapper +20000

An offensive lineman’s name is currently -260 to be called by the Jets in the NFL Draft odds, with a defensive lineman or EDGE rusher being the next likeliest selection. It’s interesting to note that Rodgers has never been a part of a team that’s drafted a receiver in the first round, and that trend is likely to continue in 2023.

AFC East Draft – Jets’ Analysis

As Rodgers ages, he’s relied more and more on a clean pocket for success. That was extremely evident this past season, as he ranked below league average in quarterback rating under pressure.

Rodgers ranked in the bottom-10 among starters with the heat on in both completion percentage and yards per attempt. He absorbed 32 sacks, the most he’s taken since 2019, while his 39.3 QBR was the lowest of his career as a full-time starter.

New York has invested major draft capital in its o-line over the past three seasons, but those players have been derailed by injury. They’ll want to ensure depth at that position with another high pick, and this year’s draft class is loaded with offensive line talent.

Four offensive line prospects are expected to be taken in the top-20 picks, with most industry experts mocking one to the Jets at pick number 13.

New York solidified its pass rush, wide receiver corps, and secondary last season, now it’s time to beef up their protection.

Pick: Offensive Lineman (-260)

AFC East Draft – Patriots’ Analysis

Moving on to the Patriots now, who could go in any direction with their first overall selection. Wide receiver is the favorite, but Bill Belichick’s history at targeting that position isn’t exactly glowing.

New England Patriots First Position Draft Odds

Player Odds
Wide Receiver +230
Offensive Lineman +250
Cornerback +300
Quarterback +750
Running Back +900
Defensive Lineman / EDGE +1000
Tight End +2000
Safety +3000
Linebacker +3000
Kicker/Punter/Long Snapper +20000

New England added both JuJu Smith-Schuster and Mike Gesicki in free agency, making it less likely they target a pass catcher with their first pick.

Belichick has a strong track record of developing secondary talent, however, and this year’s cornerback class is also loaded. Six corners are expected to be Day 1 picks, and the Pats could use another elite player at that position opposite Jonathan Jones.

Pick: Cornerback (+300)

AFC East Draft – Bills’ Analysis

Buffalo on the other hand, is a strong contender to take a wideout with its first pick. The Bills are on the clock at pick number 27, which is a prime spot to target a receiver. None of the three receivers likely to go in the first round are true number ones, but anyone of them would look great playing alongside Stefon Diggs.

Buffalo Bills First Position Draft Odds

Player Odds
Linebacker +175
Wide Receiver +330
Offensive Lineman +380
Defensive Lineman / EDGE +500
Running Back +1000
Tight End +1200
Cornerback +2500
Safety +3000
Quarterback +20000
Kicker/Punter/Long Snapper +20000

Buffalo can’t be happy with the underwhelming season Gabe Davis just delivered, and the pass-catching room for Josh Allen is bare after that. Expect the Bills to address that need early in this year’s draft.

Pick: Wide Receiver (+330)

AFC East Draft – Dolphins’ Analysis

Miami has just four picks this season, and none until the second round. At that point, the elite offensive linemen will be off the board, but as we mentioned this draft is loaded with talent at that position.

Miami Dolphins First Position Draft Odds

Player Odds
Offensive Lineman +200
Tight End +250
Running Back +550
Defensive Lineman / EDGE +550
Wide Receiver +750
Linebacker +750
Cornerback +4000
Safety +4000
Quarterback +10000
Kicker/Punter/Long Snapper +20000

The Dolphins are set at the skill positions, and they could definitely use an upgrade in the trenches. Miami finished 24th in pass block win rate last season and 21st in run block win rate.

Add in Tua Tagovailoa’s injury history, and prioritizing the offensive line as quickly as possible makes even more sense.

Pick: Offensive Lineman (+200)
