  • For the first time this season, the Baltimore Ravens are favored to win Super Bowl 54
  • Baltimore is listed as the +275 chalk
  • The Ravens are 10-2 for the first time in franchise history and tied a club record with eight straight wins

The Baltimore Ravens have bulldozed their way to the top of the NFL standings.

Sunday’s action saw the Ravens beat the NFC-leading 10-2 San Francisco 49ers 20-17. Sunday night, the New England Patriots fell 28-22 to the AFC South-leading Houston Texans.

Since the Ravens beat New England 37-20 on Nov. 3, they are holding the tiebreaker over the Patriots and therefore, top seeding in the AFC.

Last week, books moved Baltimore and New England into a tie atop the Super Bowl odds.  Sunday’s sequence of events positioned the Ravens as outright favorites for the first time.

Super Bowl 54 Odds

Odds taken Dec. 2.

Across the leading sportsbooks, the Patriots had averaged out as the Super Bowl 54 chalk since February 5th, which is when the odds opened.

Ravens Wrecking Ball

In the past six weeks, Baltimore has beaten four teams currently holding playoff positions (Seattle Seahawks, New England Patriots, Houston Texans, San Francisco). Those four teams are a combined 35-6 this season against every other team they’ve played.

The Ravens have defeated three division leaders (Patriots, Texans, 49ers) and both of last season’s Super Bowl participants (Patriots, Los Angeles Rams).

The Ravens have won their last five games by a combined margin of 222-79. The 49ers were the first team in six weeks to hold Baltimore under 30 points. Defensively, the Ravens haven’t allowed more than 20 points in the past seven games.

They are 10-2 for the first time in team history and the club’s current eight-game winning streak equals a franchise mark.

Baltimore is also getting it done from a betting standpoint, During this eight-game winning streak, the Ravens are 5-2-1 against the spread.

Action Jackson

Lamar Jackson continues to make a strong case that he is the NFL’s MVP. Sunday, in miserable, rainy, windy conditions, he used his elusiveness to run for 105 yards. In doing so, Jackson became the first quarterback in league history to post four 100-yard rushing games in the same season.

Jackson is 16-3 as a starter. The Ravens are 12-0 when their double threat at QB runs for at least 70 yards.

He also leads the NFL with 25 touchdown passes and a passer rating of 109.6. He’s posted wins this season against Tom Brady, Russell Wilson and Deshaun Watson.

Standing Over the Pats

Baltimore beat the Patriots 37-20 and put a 45-6 thumping on the Texans, the team that handled New England on Sunday night.

Taking over home-field advantage in the AFC is huge for the Ravens. Although they won the AFC Championship Game last season at Kansas City, the Patriots are 1-3 in their last four AFC title games on the road.

New England doesn’t look like the well-oiled machine that’s won two of the past three Super Bowls. The Pats are 3-2 straight up against teams with winning records but just 1-4 against the spread in those games.

On the flip side, the Ravens are 6-1 SU against teams with more wins than losses. They are 4-2-1 ATS in those games. Baltimore swept the NFC West, whose top three teams own a combined record of 26-9.

The Ravens are the best team in the NFL, and have been for quite some time. You should’ve bet them to win the Super Bowl a while ago.

Pick: Baltimore Ravens (+275)
