It’s a Christmas special with not much special about it, as the Philadelphia Eagles (9-5, 4-3 away) are in Washington to battle the Commanders (4-10, 2-4 home) in a Saturday showdown.

While Philly is very much in the playoff race in the NFC, Washington is out, and they’ve also shut down franchise pivot Jayden Daniels for the year, leaving veteran Marcus Mariota to steer the club the rest of the way. The only way we can make this worth our time is to bet the player props available in the NFL odds.

PHI Eagles vs WAS Commanders Player Props

Jalen Hurts has the top passing yards number at 217.5, while teammate Saquon Barkley leads all running backs with an 80.5 yards line.

AJ Brown has the top receptions prop at 5.5, followed by teammate Devonta Smith and Commanders receivers Terry McLaurin and Deebo Samuel, all at 4.5 grabs.

Eagles vs Commanders Player Prop Bet #1: Barkley Rush Attempts

Look, Philly is still a mess offensively, but at least they’re getting back to what’s gotten them success in the past: running the football.

Saquon Barkley is far removed from his 2,000 yard rushing campaign a season ago, as he’s yet to break 1,000 yards with just three games to play.

But the Eagles are at least going to him — even if its not close to the success level handing it off to Barkely was a year ago.

The results have been mixed, as Barkley has just one 100+ rushing game over the last six weeks, but the process can’t be argued with: Saquon is getting fed the rock frequently. He’s coming off back-to-back 20+ carry games, and has toted the rock over 20 times in four of the last six games.

That’s a distant memory from the start of the year, where the Eagles gave Barkley just one game of 20+ carries, against the Chiefs in Week 2.

While Washington is a bottom-five team in rushing yards allowed on the year, there’s no guarantee Barkley runs wild, though I’d be more than happy to wager he runs regularly.

Eagles vs Commanders Player Prop Bet #2: Mariota Passing Yards

It hasn’t been all good for Marcus Mariota, but the 32-year-old is doing something valuable right now in the absense of Jayden Daniels: building his portfolio as a legitimate backup in the NFL.

Now that hasn’t come close to translating to wins, but at least he’s coming off a win before taking on Philly. Mariota threw for 211 yards and a TD last game in a 29-21 victory over the New York Giants, and he’ll be facing a Philly defense without star defensive tackle Jalen Carter.

He’s only had two appearances against the Eagles in his career, and just one start, but it was a good one, throwing for 344 yards and two touchdowns while still a member of the Tennessee Titans.

Philly’s defense is just outside the Top 10 in sacks, and they have just 10 interceptions on the season. The opportunity is there for Mariota to put another good session on tape, and be aggressive against a team that, despite being the reigning Super Bowl champs, lack a little bit of confidence in this juncture of the season.

Mariota has had three games where he’s thrown for a pair of scores this season, and four others where he was one strike away. That’s seven out of 10 games he’s been around that total.
