- The Tennessee Titans are 5.5-point home favorites Sunday against the Cleveland Browns in a battle of 8-3 teams
- Sunday betting record: 8-1; 6.47 units won
- Cleveland is just 1-3 this season in games against teams with winning records
Both the Cleveland Browns and Tennessee Titans are 8-3. Each team looks to be a solid bet in terms of NFL playoff participation.
And yet, there still seems to be more questions than answers when it comes to each of these clubs.
The Browns have taken advantage of the dregs on their schedule. Cleveland is just 1-3 straight up when facing opponents with winning records this season.
Tennessee is the NFL’s 28th-best pass defense (268.5 yards per game). They’ve allowed 23 touchdown passes. Only the Dallas Cowboys (25) have surrendered more.
Coming off a big win over the Indianapolis Colts that put them back atop the AFC South, the Titans are listed as 5.5-point home favorites. That line has shortened since opening at Tennessee -6.

Runner’s Paradise
Cleveland and Tennessee are 1-2 in the NFL in rushing. The Browns are the NFL’s best rushing team, while Titans running back Derrick Henry is the league’s leading rusher.
Henry carved through the #7 rush defense of the Colts last week for 178 yards and three TDs. He leads the NFL with 1,257 yards on the ground. Henry has rumbled for 414 of those yards over the past three games.
Is it crazy to think Nick Chubb should get some MVP votes this season?

Cleveland’s Nick Chubb (719 yards) and Kareem Hunt (706 yards) offer the best 1-2 punch of any NFL backfield. Both rank among the top 10 rushers in the league. They’re on pace to be the seventh teammates to rush for 1,000-yards in the same season and the first since Carolina’s Jonathan Stewart and DeAngelo Williams in 2009.
Chubb’s per-game average of 102.7 yards is third in the NFL. His 6.3 yards per carry leads the league.
Playing With The Big Boys
Despite being off to their best start since 1994, the Browns continue to look like not they aren’t quite ready to be prime time players. Not only are they 1-3 against winning teams, they’ve scored a combined total of 19 points in losses to the Raiders (6-5), Steelers (11-0) and Ravens (6-5).
#Browns are 8-3 this season which is the 4th best record in the NFL & that is progress for the organization. But we’ll find out a lot more about them Sunday as they face only their 5th team this year with a winning record in Tennessee. So far @Browns are 1-3 vs plus .500 teams.

By way of comparison, the Titans beat the Ravens and were competitive with the Steelers, falling 27-24. Tennessee has also beaten Buffalo (8-3) and Indianapolis (7-4), scoring a combined 87 points in those wins.
Injury Report
Potentially big news for the Browns is the return of defensive end Myles Garrett. He’s missed the last two games while on the reserve/COVID-19 list. Garrett is third in the NFL with 9.5 sacks.

"I wouldn't give anything other than my best."

For Cleveland, cornerback Denzel Ward (calf) and wide receiver KhaDarel Hodge (hamstring) are out. Hodge was replacing Odell Beckham Jr, on IR with a knee injury.
For the Titans, tight end Jonnu Smith (knee) is out and left guard Rodger Saffold III (ankle) is questionable. Defensively, the questionable starter is left defensive end Jeffery Simmons (knee).
Trend Spotting
Cleveland’s minus-21 scoring differential is the worst ever recorded by an 8-3 team in NFL history. The Browns are 1-4 ATS on the road and 1-2 ATS as a road underdog.
Tennessee is 3-3 ATS at home and 2-2 ATS as a home favorite. The Titans are the NFL’s best over team, going 8-2-1 on the total. That includes a 4-1-1 slate at home and a 2-1-1 mark as a home favorite.

The Browns are 6-5 overall on the total and 3-2 as a road team. But Cleveland is just 1-2 on the total as an away underdog.
Pick: Tennessee Titans -5.5 (-110), 1 unit.
