  • The Cleveland Browns are 3.5-point away favorites at the Kansas City Chiefs in their Week 3 NFL Preseason game on Saturday, August 26
  • This will be just the sixth NFL Preseason game between the Chiefs and Browns
  • Kansas City hasn’t beaten Cleveland in the preseason since 1984

Both the Kansas City Chiefs (1-1) and Cleveland Browns (1-1-1) are treading water in the NFL Preseason. As they meet in Week 3, it’s the visiting Browns that oddsmakers are setting as 3.5-point road favorites in the Browns vs Chiefs odds.

Perhaps they are weighing the recent history of this rivalry in setting that betting line. Cleveland has won the last two games against Kansas City in NFL Preseason action. You have to go back to 1984 to find the Chiefs toppling the Browns in an exhibition game.

Read on as we break down our NFL preseason Browns vs Chiefs prediction.

Browns vs Chiefs Odds

Team Moneyline Spread Total
Cleveland Browns -180 -3.5 (-110) Over 41.5 (-110)
Kansas City Chiefs +150 +3.5 (-110) Under 41.5 (-110)

Granted, it’s a small sample size when breaking down NFL Preseason competition between Cleveland and Kansas City. This will be just the sixth meeting between the two clubs. The Browns have won two straight against the Chiefs. Currently, Cleveland is 3-0-1 straight up in the club’s last four road preseason games. At -180 on the moneyline in the Browns vs Chiefs odds, Cleveland are big favorites to simply win the game that has a total set at 41.5.

Kansas City is 2-1 SU at home in the NFL Preseason when facing Cleveland, posting those two home triumphs by a combined 73-13 margin. The Chiefs also were 16-13 victors in a neutral-site game played at Memphis in 1970.

How to Watch Browns vs Chiefs

Kickoff is set for 1:00 pm ET on Saturday, August 26 at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium. The game is being broadcast live by NBC.

The NFL odds show that the Chiefs are 0-1 SU at home in the 2023 NFL Preseason. Cleveland is 0-0-1 SU on the road.

KC Backup QB Battle Ongoing

Everyone knows who will be QB1 for the Chiefs this season. That would be two-time Super Bowl champion and favorite in the 2023 NFL MVP odds Patrick Mahomes.

Who’s playing behind Mahomes on the depth chart? That spot is still up for grabs following the retirement of Chad Henne. NFL veterans Blake Gabbert and Shane Buechele are battling for the spot.

Don’t expect to see Mahomes in this game as Chiefs head coach Andy Reid gives these two the opportunity to claim the second stringer role. So far in the preseason, Gabbert is 11-of-16 for 179 yards. He’s throws for three touchdowns against zero interceptions. Buechele is 21-of-28 for 260 yards. He’s been good for two TDs and has been picked off once.

If you’re seeking a play in NFL props at one of the leading NFL betting apps, you might want to take a hard look at Chiefs rookie WR Rashee Rice. Battling for a roster spot, he figures to see plenty of playing time in this game. Rice is leading all NFL receivers during the preseason with 84 yards after catch.

Cleveland Giving Starters Extended Playing Time

Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski intends to give his first-team offense and defense long looks in this game. Both units are expected to be on the field for between 20-25 plays.

The competition for backup QB in Cleveland is equally as compelling as in Kansas City. This week, the Browns dealt Josh Dobbs, who had been #2 on the depth chart, to the Arizona Cardinals, a team desperate for QB help.

Veteran Kellen Mond, clearly struggling in the preseason, was placed on waivers and then reclaimed following the Dobbs trade. Meanwhile, rookie Dorian Thompson-Robinson has climbed up into that #2 spot on the depth chart.

Robinson has thrown for over 100 yards in each of his last two preseason appearances. Last week against the reigning NFC champion Philadelphia Eagles, he was 13-of-25 for 164 yards in an 18-18 tie.

Browns vs Chiefs Prediction

That Cleveland is giving the club’s starters a long look is clearly the real reason behind the betting line on this game. Kansas City isn’t a team known for putting a lot of stock into postseason outcomes. The Chiefs are 13-11 SU in their last 24 NFL Preseason games

Browns vs Chiefs Picks: Cleveland Browns -3.5 (-110)
