Will Damon Sheehy-Guiseppi's Cinderella story continue with another NFL team? Sportsbooks have opening odds of -200 that the rookie WR will sign with another NFL roster after being cut by the Browns. Photo from @BlitzMagazine (Twitter).
  • Sheehy-Guiseppi returned a punt 86 yards for a TD in his preseason debut
  • From homeless to the NFL, the 24-year-old failed to make Cleveland’s 53-man roster
  • Rookie WR given +150 odds to sign with another NFL team

It’s been a whirlwind summer for Damon Sheehy-Guiseppi who remains unsigned following an impressive preseason performance with the Cleveland Browns.

Sheehy-Guiseppi, a rookie wide receiver who claimed to personally know Cleveland Browns VP of Player Personnel Alonzo Highsmith in order to land a tryout with the team, was cut by the Browns heading into the regular season.

Still unsigned, online sportsbooks have released odds on whether Sheehy-Guiseppi will be signed to an NFL roster this season, with “No” coming in as the -200 favorite. Is there value in betting “Yes”  at +150?

Projection Odds
No -200
Yes +150

Odds taken September 6.

Sheehy-Guiseppi has a very unique past, attending Mesa Community College where he competed in track and field before transferring to Phoenix College to join the football program.

But after Phoenix, he was away from football for two seasons and wound-up homeless, sleeping outside of a gym in Miami.

With nothing to lose, the 24-year-old decided to try out for the Cleveland Browns and made an instant impression by running the 40-yard dash in 4.38 seconds.

Then, in his first preseason game, Sheehy-Guiseppi returned a punt 86 yards for a touchdown and made two catches against the Washington Redskins.

Too Much Competition For Sheehy-Guiseppi

On a team already stacked with talent at WR, there was really no place for Sheehy-Guiseppi in Cleveland. The Browns were also deep at kick returner with D’Ernest Johnson and Antonio Callaway sharing those duties.

That spelled the end for Sheehy-Guiseppi in Cleveland. He failed to make Cleveland’s 53-man roster and has been jobless ever since.

Where does Sheehy-Guiseppi go from here? Is there a place for him on an NFL roster?

The bad news for Sheehy-Guiseppe is that roughly 90% of practice-squad positions have been spoken for.

There is still the possibility based on his brief stint with the Browns that another NFL team may take a shot on him, but that may only come if a team is spread thin due to injuries or other circumstances.

There hasn’t been a whole lot of interest in the rookie receiver since being cut, which makes the +150 line risky. I see better value on the “No” at -200. It’s looking more and more like this feel-good story has come to an abrupt end.

Pick:  No (-200)
