Two of the NFL’s most disappointing teams who have been eliminated from playoff contention meet on Christmas as the Denver Broncos visit the Los Angeles Rams at 4:30 p.m. ET Sunday at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, Calif.

The Broncos (4-10, 1-6 road) ended their five-game losing streak last week by beating the Arizona Cardinals 24-15. Denver had Super Bowl aspirations after trading with the Seattle Seahawks for quarterback Russell Wilson in the offseason.

A year after winning the Super Bowl, the Rams (4-10, 3-5 home) have lost seven of their last eight games. They dropped a 24-12 decision to the Packers on Monday night in Green Bay.

The game will be televised by CBS.

Broncos vs Rams Recent History

The Rams have won four straight games against the Broncos. The teams last met in 2018 with Los Angeles notching a 23-20 victory in Denver.

Broncos Offense vs Rams Defense

Wilson returns after sitting out last week’s game. Though Wilson passed concussion protocol, the Broncos decided to play it safe and started Brett Rypien at quarterback.

Having spent his entire career with the Seahawks in the NFC West until this season, Wilson has an extensive history versus the Rams. He has thrown multiple touchdown passes against them in seven of 20 games and rushed for at least 25 yards nine times.

Wilson has been sacked multiple times in each game this season thanks in part to the Broncos struggling in pass protection. Outside linebacker Leonard Floyd could be a problem for Denver coming off a two-sack performance against the Packers that gave him multiple sacks in three games this season.

Cornerback Jalen Ramsey has 11 passes defended. He has reached double figures five times in his seven-year career.

Rams Offense vs Broncos Defense

The Rams are last in the NFL in total offense and next-to-last in points scored. They have turned to waiver claim quarterback Baker Mayfield to finish the season with Matthew Stafford sidelined by a neck injury.

The Broncos are a tough matchup for even the best QBs so it could be a rough holiday for Mayfield. Denver has the best red zone defense in the NFL, allowing touchdowns on 37.5% of possessions (12 of 32), are also first in forcing three-and-outs (29.9% of possessions).

Defensive tackle DeShawn Williams has suddenly become a force for the Broncos. He has 4.5 sacks in his last three games after registering just 3.5 sacks in the first 44 games of his career.

Kicker Matt Gay could be the difference-maker in a game between two offensively challenged teams. He has made five of seven field goal attempts from 50 yards or longer.

Broncos vs Rams Injury Report

Broncos wide receiver Kendall Hinton has been ruled out. Running back Latavius Murray (foot) is questionable a week after rushing for 130 yards along with offensive tackle Calvin Anderson (ankle), defensive end Randy Gregory (knee), guard Dalton Risner (shoulder/back/foot), wide receiver Courtland Sutton (hamstring), and cornerback K’Wuan Williams (wrist/knee).

Center Brian Allen (calf) and wide receiver Ben Skowronek (calf) are both out for the Rams after being injured Monday night. Also missing the game will be defensive tackles Marquise Copeland (ankle) and Aaron Donald (ankle), linebackers Jake Gervase (ankle) and Travin Howard (hip), and backup quarterback John Wolford (neck).

Donald, the three-time NFL Defensive Player of the Year, is unlikely to play against this season.

Broncos vs Rams Prediction

This game could be truly awful with two moribund offenses. Let’s take the points with the home underdog and cross our fingers.

The Pick: Rams +3 (-105)

Season Record: 4-5 (-1.5 units) ATS
