Georgia defensive tackle Jalen Carter might be the best player available in the NFL Draft – and the most controversial.

Carter was charged with reckless driving and racing charges in connection with an automobile accident that killed a teammate and recruiting analyst just days after Georgia won its second consecutive CFP championship in January.

After not working out at the NFL Combine, Carter failed to impress at Georgia’s pro day. Scouts said he looked heavy and listless.

The Seattle Seahawks are the favorites to select Carter at +400 in the NFL Draft odds.

Who Is Jalen Carter?

Carter was a first-team Associated Press All-American in 2022 when he had 32 tackles – seven for loss — along with three sacks, three passes defensed and two forced fumbles. He was slowed by knee and ankle injuries.

Carter had a total of six sacks in three collegiate seasons.

While his traditional statistics weren’t eye-popping, Pro Football Focus graded Carter as the fifth-best run stopper among FBS interior defenders last season and the No. 7 pass rusher.

At the combine, Carter was measured 6-foot-3 and 314 pounds with 33 ½-inch arms and 10 ¼-inch hands.

Carter entered a no-contest plea March 16 for the reckless driving and racing charges. He received 12 months of probation, a $1,000 fine, 80 hours of community service and was required to take a state-approved defensive driving test.

What Experts Think of Jalen Carter

Carter is universally considered the best defensive tackle/interior lineman prospect available in the draft.

NFL.com takes it a step further and ranks Carter as the No. 1 player available, regardless of position. Pro Football Focus ranks him second and The Athletic has him at No. 3 while Carter is 13th on ESPN’s list.

NFL.com, The Athletic and ESPN all project Carter being drafted fifth overall by the Seattle Seahawks. PFF has him lasting to No. 7 and being selected by the Las Vegas Raiders.

Who Will Draft Jalen Carter?

The Seahawks make a lot of sense for Carter as they need to bolster their defensive line. Seattle was 25th in the NFL in total defense last season and ranked No. 30 against the run ahead of just the Chicago Bears and Houston Texans.

The Texans have the second pick and Carter would be an idea fit. However, they almost certainly take a quarterback.

The Seahawks are the way to go at such a low price. However, the Arizona Cardinals could snag Carter at No. 3 and are worth at least a small wager at +1500.

Pick: Seahawks +400
