The Jacksonville Jaguars are in New Orleans to take on the Saints in Week 2 of the NFL preseason.
Both teams are seeking clarity at the pivot position – but entirely different scenarios surround incumbent Trevor Lawrence in Jacksonville, and Spencer Rattler and Tyler Shough in the Big Easy
It makes for an intriguing matchup when these teams kick it off Sunday at 1pm ET from the Caesars Superdome, with the books tagging the Jags as road favorites in the latest NFL odds.

Jacksonville Jaguars vs New Orleans Saints Probable Starters
New Jags head coach Liam Coen doesn’t yet know which of his players will be suiting up.
Speaking to reporters after practice Friday, Coen said he needed to check the injury report, to ensure that players that do play aren’t compromised by being placed in vulnerable spots.
He did mention protecting QB Trevor Lawrence specifically, which means that if that line isn’t too dinged up, the no. 1 pick of the 2021 NFL Draft should see some action. If he goes, there’s a chance that rookie two-way threat Travis Hunter gets in some reps too.
Lawrence is the undisputed pivot for the Jags, but he’s going to have to pick up Coen’s offense after Doug Pederson and Urban Meyer couldn’t coax it out of him, losing their head coaching jobs in the process.
Notable Jaguars vs Saints in Preseason Week 2
New Orleans hasn’t shared much of who they are playing either, but much of the assumption is that the two QB’s fighting for the starting job — Spencer Rattler and rookie Tyler Shough — should get a bunch of reps.
Both played in Week 1 against the Rams, with varying levels of success.
Jaguars vs Saints Prediction
- Jaguars -3 (-110)
I’m working on the assumption that Lawrence will play, making him the best player on the field for both teams. He threw just seven passes in their 31-25 loss to Pittsburgh in the preseason opener.
This might be the best time for Coen to let his quarterback take the offense for a real test drive, before letting Nick Mullens and Seth Henigan battle it out for the backup/no. 3 job.
Lawrence’s likely start has been a line-mover: originally as low as a 1.5-point spread during the week, it’s now climbed to as high as 3.5, while the total sits at 40 points.
Jaguars vs Saints Betting Lines
Last week, the Saints dropped a 27-13 decision to the Chargers, as they struggled offensively and couldn’t come back from a two-score deficit.
Shough shook off a rough pick-6 and got the offense going, throwing for 165 yards and a TD on the next drive after the turnover. The Steelers rung up over 400 yards of offense on the Jaguars D, so they might get some better looks.
However, it feels like the Saints are a major work in progress, as evidenced by the Chargers sacking their quarterbacks five times. Jacksonville seems more together at this point in the preseason and should roll.
