  • The Los Angeles Rams are 5.5-point road favorites over the Baltimore Ravens in an NFL game scheduled for Sunday, January 2

The Los Angeles Rams are on the verge of winning the NFC West. Meanwhile, the Baltimore Ravens are continuing to go south in the AFC North.

Should the 11-4 Rams defeat the Ravens on Sunday and the Arizona Cardinals also lose to the Dallas Cowboys, LA would clinch the NFC West title.

Baltimore has lost four in a row to drop to 8-7 and the tenth seed in the AFC. Already in need of help to get into the postseason, a loss Sunday won’t completely eliminate the Ravens from playoff contention. However, the route becomes almost impossible.

Oddsmakers are anticipating that the Rams will put a hurting on Baltimore. The Ravens are 5.5-point home underdogs. Baltimore is 4-3 against the spread at home this season.

Sunday’s kickoff is set for 1pm ET at M&T Bank Stadium. The weather forecast is calling for rain, 12 mph wind and a balmy January temperature of 60 degrees.

Rams vs Ravens Line Movement

The public is all over the Rams in the NFL betting trends. In point spread wagering, 86% of handle and 87% of bets are backing LA. That’s caused the line to move from its opening number of Rams -3.

Moneyline wagering is equally LA-centric. There’s 85% of handle and 86% of all bets supporting the Rams.

In terms of the total, the over is getting 76% of handle and 75% of bets. The total has grown slightly from 45.5 points to 46.

Will Jackson Inaction Be Ending?

For the third straight week, Ravens head coach John Harbaugh is refusing to rule out quarterback Lamar Jackson (right ankle injury). This, even though the 2019 NFL MVP has barely taken any snaps again this week during practice.

Tyler Huntley is out of COVID-19 protocol and would start for Baltimore if Jackson can’t go. Last week, third-stringer Josh Johnson was the Ravens’ starting QB as they were walloped 41-21 by the Cincinnati Bengals.

Rams vs Ravens Injury Report

Officially, Baltimore is listing Jackon’s status as questionable. Wide receivers Marquise Brown (illness) and Devin Duvernay (ankle) and fullback Patrick Ricard (knee) are also questionable. Left guard Ben Powers (foot) and left cornerback Anthony Averett (ribs/chest) are out.

For the Rams, there’s motion in their offensive backfield. Running back Darrell Henderson (knee) was placed on injured reserve. The team was hoping that RB Cam Akers (Achilles), the team’s 2020 rushing leader with 625 yards, would be good to return to action. However, he’s listed as questionable for Sunday.

Head coach Sean McVay is saying it’s unlikely that Akers will make his season debut. That would leave the ground game in the hands of Sony Michel. Michel has run for a club-leading 728 yards.

On the defensive side of the ball, nose tackle Greg Gaines (hand), weakside linebacker Leonard Floyd (ankle) and free safety Taylor Rapp (shoulder) are all listed as questionable.

Rams vs Ravens Betting Trends

According to the ESPN Power Index, a loss to the Rams on Sunday would drop Baltimore’s chances of earning a playoff spot to 8%. The Ravens haven’t missed the postseason since 2017. Baltimore has never lost five games in a row during Harbaugh’s 14 seasons in charge.

The Ravens are 5-2 straight up all-time against the Rams. They’ve won four in a row and are 3-0 all-time when facing the Rams in Baltimore.

The Rams are 4-1 both SU and ATS in their last five games. LA is 2-8 ATS in its last 10 games against AFC opposition.

Rams vs Ravens Prediction

Even though they’ve lost four in a row, for the most part the Ravens have remained in the game. Baltimore is 1-1 with Huntley as their starting QB. His last game in charge was a 31-30 home loss to the Green Bay Packers, the top seed in the NFC.

There’s also been a one-point loss at Pittsburgh and a two-point loss at Cleveland during this four-game Baltimore skid. The Rams should win this game but take the Ravens and the points.

Pick: Baltimore Ravens +5.5 (-110)
