  • Jaguars QB Gardner Minshew is listed behind only Giants QB Daniel Jones in NFL OROY odds
  • Minshew replaced the injured Nick Foles and has thrown 7 touchdowns and 1 interception while leading Jacksonville to a tie atop the AFC South
  • His 69.4% completion percentage ranks 6th in the NFL

Few things are more exciting than watching Jaguars QB Gardner Minshew play football these days. The rookie signal caller has taken the league by storm and is now listed behind only New York Giants QB Daniel Jones in NFL OROY odds.

NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year Odds

Player (Team) Odds
Daniel Jones (Giants) +150
Gardner Minshew (Jaguars) +225
Kyler Murray (Cardinals) +400
David Montgomery (Bears) +1400
Josh Jacobs (Raiders) +1600

*odds taken 10/01

Minshew was +2500 to win the award two weeks ago and +680 before leading Jacksonville to another win in Week 4. His rapid rise has eliminated the ability to bet on him at lottery-like odds, but that doesn’t mean you can’t still make a buck.

I think he’s the front-runner to win the award and he’s worth betting at +225.

Jones, Minshew & Murray Only True Contenders

You can see from the drastic drop off in the odds it seems like there are only three real contenders to win the award. Minshew, Jones and Arizona Cardinals rookie and first overall pick Kyler Murray. This is where Minshew’s candidacy gets even stronger.

While the other two quarterbacks are good players who could rack up numbers, they play on two of the lesser teams in the league. While the Giants are 2-2, they trail the Dallas Cowboys in the division and have a tough schedule ahead.

The Cardinals are one of the NFL’s winless teams and will finish closer to the #1 pick again than they will to a playoff spot.

Jacksonville is 2-2 like New York but thanks to a weak AFC South they are actually in a four-way tie for the division lead. Minshew is more than capable of leading his team to a division title which would bolster his already strong case.

Jaguars QB Turning Heads So Far

Minshew has been all flash and dash on social media but it’s his play on the field that is causing the biggest stir. He’s 84 for 121 this season which is a 69.4 completion percentage.

For a point of reference, he’s replacing the injured Nick Foles who is 61.6 % for his career. Prior to Foles Jaguars fans were subject to Blake Bortles who completed only 59.3% of his passes.

Minshew isn’t just tossing dink and dunk balls either, he has 905 yards and 7 touchdowns to go along with only 1 interception. He’s playing at a near elite level regardless of the fact he’s a freshman. His numbers and ability coupled with the big advantage he has playing for a quality team give him a great shot at winning the award.

Try not to focus on the fact you missed out on wagering on him at +2500 and focus more on the fact you can profit handsomely on the soon to be household name.

PICK: Gardner Minshew (+225)
