Oh what a difference a year makes.

Ahead of the Chiefs and 49ers facing off in Super Bowl 54, purple was a heavy favorite at -120. There were a lot of reasons for that in early 2020, but ultimately the books were proven wrong.

Chiefs Repeat Means Gatorade Color Would Be…

Thankfully we don’t have to go too far back into the history books to know what color one side favors.

Amidst the celebration of their Super Bowl 54 win, the Chiefs soaked Andy Reid in orange Gatorade.

So is there any reason to think things will be different if they win it all again?

Not really. Although if we go back in history, it does seem that the color orange follows Reid.

Thinking the head coach calls the Gato shots in KC would be a mistake though. It’s obviously Patrick Mahomes’ decision to make. And while he loves Ketchup, it’s tough to see him audibling to red after winning it all with orange a year ago.

Buccaneers Gatorade Remains a Mystery

If the NFC Championship game was played in a warmer climate, there’s a chance we may have gotten a sneak peak inside the Bucs’ cooler.

After all, it’s been a long time since the team has sniffed the playoffs, let alone a Super Bowl. But right now we’re in the dark.

Two years ago, in partnership with Gatorade, the team went with red and the accompanying accents when advertising the pod system. That was probably more to do with advertising, however.

This year, the best evidence we can find is a picture of Mazzi Wilkins carrying a blue Gatorade before a game against the Saints. We’ve also got multiple pictures, including one of Ndamukong Suh, drinking something clear from a Gatorade bottle. Whether it’s water or not, it may be a hint.

What’s Getting Dumped Super Bowl Sunday?

The Chiefs are 3.5-point favorites two weeks ahead of the big game. If you’re siding with them, then take orange. Ultimately its status as the favorite makes sense at +135.

If you’re thinking we may be in for an upset, the Bucs are harder to predict. Whatever Suh was drinking in that picture, it was at least out of a team-issued bottle. Wilkins was carrying his blue drink in a clear, individually supplied bottle, and it was pregame.

This is not a prop to close your eyes and pick. Whoever you’re backing to win Super Bowl 55, make sure you go with the appropriate color.

The Pick: Orange (Chiefs win, +135); Clear (Bucs win, +600)
