Odds Say Dolphins Will Draft a QB in 1st Round of 2020 NFL Draft Despite Acquiring Rosen, But Giants Won’t
- The Miami Dolphins traded a second-round pick for Josh Rosen
- The New York Giants drafted Daniel Jones sixth overall in the 2019 NFL Draft
- The 2020 NFL Draft is expected to be loaded with high-end quarterbacks
The 2020 NFL Draft is supposed to be loaded with top talent at the quarterback position. That’s left a lot of people wondering who’ll be tanking for those tantalizing passers.
The Miami Dolphins and New York Giants have seemingly solved their quarterbacking woes, but the odds question if those teams will be drafting quarterbacks in 2020. Let’s take a closer look.

Is Rosen the Answer to Miami’s Problems?
The Dolphins used a second-round pick to acquire Josh Rosen, but there are still many who believe that the Dolphins haven’t solved their quarterbacking problems. Remember, Rosen didn’t look very good last season and that’s the main reason why the Cardinals cut bait after just one season.
Of course, Rosen was a rookie last season but there were very few flashes of brilliance. We’re talking about a player who threw just 11 touchdowns but had 14 interceptions. You’d like to see rookies progress as the season goes on, but Rosen had just one touchdown pass in his final five games.

The biggest concern is that a lot of his numbers regressed as the season went along. His completion percentage declined by the month, as did his yards-per-attempt. His passing yardage numbers are flat-out pathetic as he averaged 142.6 passing yards per game over his final seven contests.
Miami Isn’t Setting Rosen Up for Success
For those saying that a fresh start is all that Rosen needed might want to take a look at the roster he’s been traded too. Yes, he was on an awful Cardinals team last season who couldn’t protect him, couldn’t run the ball, and had minimal weapons to work with. Well, what does Miami have?

The regular season NFL win totals project the Dolphins to finish with the fewest wins in the NFL this season. They have a shaky offensive line, an inconsistent ground game and just a few scant receivers. It’s not as if Rosen is in a much better place.
Yes, the Dolphins want Rosen to succeed. The reality is he probably won’t show much this year, leaving them in prime position to take a quarterback in 2020. The class will be full of quality passers and they won’t pass up on their opportunity to get a real franchise quarterback.

Is Jones Really the Giants’ QB of the Future?
The Giants spent their first pick in the 2019 NFL Draft by getting Daniel Jones, who is supposedly their quarterback of the future. It’s hard to see them drafting another quarterback at the top of the 2020 Draft.
The Giants are going to have to start 0-4 or 1-5 for Jones to get into the conversation to replace Manning.
To start, the Giants still believe Eli Manning has what it takes. That means that Jones won’t see the field for a long period of time if the team is winning. They’re going to have to start 0-4 or 1-5 for him to get into the conversation.

But if the Giants are bad again, that means they’ll forgive Jones for any struggles he has. It’ll be chalked up to growing pains on a bad team, so they’re likely to at least give him one more kick at the can.
The only way the Giants draft a quarterback next year is if they are a complete disaster, the coaching staff and front office are fired, and the new front office doesn’t like Jones. That’s a possibility too much of a long shot for me to invest.
