You can track how the NFL win totals change throughout the major offseason events, namely the NFL Draft and free agency, in the graph below. The Baltimore Ravens, Kansas City Chiefs, and San Francisco 49ers opened with the highest NFL win total at 11.5. However, some sportsbooks have offered the Ravens and 49ers win totals at 11, bringing down their average slightly. The Chiefs are the lone team who remains at 11.5 as they come off their worst record (11-6) since 2017.

The New England Patriots have the lowest NFL win total for the 2024-25 NFL season at just 4.5 wins. The Carolina Panthers also opened at 4.5, but saw their win total move up to 5.5 pretty quickly after opening.

There are eight teams who currently have win totals of 10 or more: the Chiefs (11.5), 49ers (11.5), Ravens (10.5), Bills (10.5), Bengals (10.5), Cowboys (10.5), Lions (10.5), and Eagles (10.5). The Falcons and Dolphins also opened at 10.5 but both dropped to 9.5 after the NFL Draft. The Lions opened at 9.5, but their draft was deemed a success and saw their win total improve to 10.5. The Packers were also a double-digit win total team at opening, but have steadily dropped down to 9.5 at most sportsbooks now.

Here are some more notes on NFL win totals movement:

  • [June 21] Some sportsbooks have started offering the Ravens and 49ers win totals at 11, leaving the Chiefs as the lone team with an 11.5 win total across the board. Carolina saw their win total improve as money came in on their over, sending it from 4.5 up to 5.5, which leaves New England as the team with the lowest win total in the NFL at this point.
  • [April 29] Following the NFL Draft, we saw the Falcons’ win total drop from 10.5 to 9.5. This likely comes as the result of the team using the eighth-overall pick on Michael Penix Jr, who appears to be set for a backup role behind Kirk Cousins, instead of addressing their lack of pass-rush. The same goes for Miami, who took players who will likely serve as backups this season with their first two picks, and saw their win total drop from 10.5 to 9.5. The Lions did address arguably their biggest hole in the draft, taking corner Terrion Arnold in the first round. The result was their win total improving from 9.5 to 10.5.
  • [March 25] The Ravens, Chiefs, and 49ers have opened with the highest NFL win totals at 11.5. Caroline and New England have opened with the lowest at 4.5.

How to Read NFL Win Total Odds

If this is your first time looking at NFL win totals, the numbers above might be incomprehensible. The easiest way to read win totals is in the table format, where the first column lists the teams, the second column lists the opening win total (what the line originally was), the third column lists the current win total, the fourth column lists the over odds, and the fifth column lists the under odds.

It’s easiest to understand using examples. Let’s say you want to bet on the Arizona Cardinals, the first team on the list. Looking at the second column, you can see their original win total was set at 6.5. The third column tells you their current win total (which you can bet) has moved up to 7.5. If they win eight or more games, they have hit the over. If they win seven or fewer games, they have hit the under. The odds in columns four and five determine the payout for over bettors and under bettors, respectively.

If you wager $100 on Arizona to go over 7.5 at +124 odds, you will profit $124 if they win eight or more games. If you wager $100 on Arizona to go under 7.5 at -152 odds, you will profit $65.79 if they win fewer than eight games.

How to Bet on NFL Win Totals

Once you have found the wager you would like to make, betting on NFL win totals is as simple as placing any other type of bet. Find the NFL win totals section at your sportsbook of choice and click on the over or under. Be warned, though, that different sportsbooks list the over/under options in different orders.

Some sportsbooks will list the option (over or under) with the shorter odds first. This means you could see the over or under listed as the first option to click. Other sportsbooks keep it uniform and just list the over first and the under second. Just be sure you double-check you have loaded the correct bet into your bet slip before actually placing the wager.

Another thing to consider is how each team has fared last year and in the previous few seasons. Teams can change drastically from one year to another, but some teams manage to keep their coaching staffs and core players together year-after-year. Here’s a quick look at each team’s record last season as well as their average wins over the last three years:

The average wins for each team over the last three seasons above is no longer a flawed metric, as we have now seen three full 17-game seasons.

NFL Win Totals Betting Tips

Before you do start making any bets, it’s important to note that there are 272 possible wins available in a 17-game season, but sportsbooks often go over that number in their opening win totals.

This year, the average sum of wins at each sportsbook was 271.8, which is 0.2 wins fewer than possible. It has since climbed to 272.9. It’s not that much of a discrepancy this season.
