  • Calgary brings one of the league’s top power plays into a matchup with a San Jose penalty kill that ranks eighth

Monday’s late window wraps up in San Jose, where the Calgary Flames visit the Sharks in a Pacific Division matchup. One of these teams has been trending up lately, and the market doesn’t seem to fully account for it.

Puck drop is set for 6 pm PT / 9 pm ET at SAP Center. The game streams on Sportsnet+ and airs on TVA Sports and NBC Sports California.

My Flames vs Sharks prediction and the full betting line breakdown are below.

Flames vs Sharks Prediction

  • Pick: Flames moneyline

My Flames vs Sharks prediction is Calgary to win outright. They’ve won five of seven, while San Jose has dropped three of four, yet the Sharks are still priced as the favorite on prediction markets.

Special teams drive a big part of my case. Calgary is converting 33.3% of its power plays, which ranks third in the NHL. San Jose’s penalty kill sits eighth at 84.0%, so this is strength against strength, but the Flames’ unit has been one of the best in the league.

Offensively, these teams are close to even. Calgary scores 2.57 goals per game against San Jose’s 2.67, which is why the Flames’ power-play edge carries so much weight here.

Calgary contracts cost 45¢, good for a 45% implied chance. A winning contract pays $1, so each 45¢ position returns 55¢ in profit. I have this closer to a coin flip, which leaves some value on the road side.

3.71Goals Against/Game3.40
33.3% (3rd)Power Play23.1% (12th)
81.8% (11th)Penalty Kill84.0% (8th)

Calgary’s power play is running more than ten points higher than San Jose’s 23.1% unit. If the Sharks give the Flames chances on the man advantage, Calgary has the personnel to make them pay.

The latest Flames vs Sharks betting line on Kalshi has San Jose at 56¢, roughly a 56% implied chance to win at home. Calgary sits at 45¢, and the two buy prices total 101¢.

The 6.5-goal total is essentially a coin flip. Over contracts cost 49¢, while taking the Under means buying No at 52¢. San Jose covering -1.5 sits at 34¢, about a one-in-three implied shot.

Late NHL Picks: Flames vs Sharks Total and Puck Line

The Calgary moneyline is my only Flames vs Sharks pick in the late window. These teams allow a combined 7.11 goals per game, which points toward the Over, but they score a combined 5.24.

That split leaves the 6.5 total too close to trade at 49¢. Goalie news can move a total more than a side, so check the starting-goalie announcements before acting on either.

I’m also passing on Sharks -1.5 at 34¢, since I’m already backing Calgary to win this game. If you’re building out your card, the latest NHL odds cover the rest of Monday’s board.
