  • Odds posted props on which player and coach will be the next to be fined for criticizing officials
  • Newest LA Ram Jalen Ramsey is a +400 favorite on the player side
  • Jon Gruden, who is typically careful about officiating, is surprisingly favored among the coaches

There has been a lot of terrible officiating in the NFL this season. As we move into the meat of the schedule, we’re going to start hitting some boiling points.

Jalen Ramsey and Jon Gruden are favored to be the next player and coach to be fined for criticizing the officials in the latest NFL prop bet offered. Are either a good bet?

Ramsey Favored To Be First Player To Get Fined

Ramsey has been one of the more outspoken players this season but it’s mostly been because he didn’t like his situation with the Jacksonville Jaguars. He forced their hand to make a trade and now he’s landed with the Los Angeles Rams.

Although Ramsey is favored here, I don’t think he’s the best bet. He’s on a brand-new team in a brand-new environment. Usually, when players get their way and get moved, they are model citizens for at least a period of time.

The best bet of the bunch here would be Odell Beckham Jr., who has been complaining non-stop about the league this season. Beckham Jr. has already been reprimanded for wearing a fancy watch in-game as well as wearing the wrong pants and getting into a scuffle.

What also helps is that he’s not having a great statistical season and the Cleveland Browns are struggling as a team. All of these things could boil over and lead him to lash out and earn himself a fine.

Taking a look at the rest of the list, Baker Mayfield has already been fined once, so he might pipe down. Clay Matthews is also on the board but he’s out with a broken jaw, so it doesn’t make sense to bet him. Beckham Jr. is the bet that makes the most sense to me here.

Gruden Favored Among Head Coaches

While Ramsey is the favorite among players, it’s Oakland Raiders boss Jon Gruden who is favored to criticize the officials and earn a fine among head coaches. Gruden often looks unhappy on the sidelines but there’s very little evidence of him publicly ripping the officials at any point in his career.

The other names at the top of the board here are a bit odd. Kliff Kingsbury is a new head coach in the NFL and is not likely to be outspoken; Adam Gase is a quiet, even-keeled guy, so he’s probably not a great bet; and Freddie Kitchens also isn’t a man to really put anyone on blast.

I’d love to bet someone like Pete Carroll as it looked like he was on the edge of bursting out last week as he was riding the officials up and down the sidelines in the team’s loss to Baltimore. However, with him off the board, I’ll go with Bruce Arians.

Arians, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach, is a guy who is brash and blunt. He speaks his mind and a fine won’t scare him off. He already called out the officials after the team’s 31-24 loss to New Orleans earlier and another game like that – with the comments that follow – are likely to get him a fine.

I don’t love the options on the board among coaches but from the ones that are there, Arians is the best bet.
