  • New England’s odds have shortened from +400 after winning first six games
  • The Patriots have defeated five teams outside of the playoff picture this season
  • Real test comes Week 9 against Baltimore’s top-ranked offense

There are two undefeated teams left standing in the NFL heading into Week 7 — one of them being the defending Super Bowl champion New England Patriots.

After a 6-0 start to the season, have the Pats been as good as advertised or has a lighter schedule paved the way for the perfect start so far?

Whatever the case may be, books released updated odds on the possibility of the Pats going 16-0 this season, with New England’s chances improving to +300.

Will The Patriots Go 16-0 This Season?

Result Odds
Yes +300
No -500

*Odds taken on 10/16/19

When this perfect season prop bet opened last month, the Patriots came in at +400. At that time, New England opened the season with three straight wins and saw their odds shorten from +800.

However, even New England’s odds not to go 16-0 this season are getting shorter. The Patriots were given -400 odds to not go perfect in 2019, but the line moved in the latest odds to -500.

Aside from a Week 3 win against a solid Buffalo Bills defense, the Patriots have defeated lowly teams that have a combined win total of six this season.

One of the teams — the Miami Dolphins — remain winless heading into Week 7, while the Redskins and Jets both have just one victory apiece.

The Patriots will take on the Jets in the second of two meetings in Week 7, which will likely result in win number seven for Tom Brady and the defending champs.

Who Will Be New England’s Biggest Challenge This Season?

After Week 7, the schedule for New England gets progressively tougher — especially down the stretch.

The Patriots will host the Cleveland Browns at Gillette Stadium in Week 8.

Despite being below .500 this season, the Browns will pose a tougher matchup than the majority of the teams the Patriots have faced to this point.

The real test comes Week 9 when the Patriots hit the road for a matchup against the AFC North-leading Baltimore Ravens. The Pats have allowed just 8.0 points against per game, but their defense will be challenged when they face the Ravens.

Baltimore’s offense is averaging a league-leading 450.7 yards per game and the team’s 30.7 points per game average is second overall behind the Patriots.

Patriots Play Cowboys, Texans, Chiefs in Consecutive Weeks

After the Ravens, the Patriots have a Week 10 bye then come back for a game against the Philadelphia Eagles, who lead the NFC East with a 3-3 record through six games.

Even if New England gets to 10-0, the Patriots have a stretch of games against the Dallas Cowboys, Houston Texans and Kansas City Chiefs.

It’s harder now than ever to post a perfect 16-0 record because of the parity in the NFL. It’s a feat that’s only been accomplished four times in league history and only once since the league moved to a 16-game schedule.

That was the 2007 Patriots who went 16-0 in the regular season but ended up losing to the New York Giants in the Super Bowl.

The Patriots will likely finish with two or three losses maximum this season, but their perfect season will come to an end against the Ravens in Week 9.

The Texans in Week 13 and Chiefs in Week 14 are the other games that the Patriots can lose, but the rest of the schedule is favorable for New England.

Pick: No (-500)
