Two NFC East division rivals do battle on Sunday, September 25th, with the 2-and-0 Eagles squaring off with the 1-and-1 Commanders. It’ll be something of a grudge match for Philly QB Carson Wentz, as he faces the team that drafted him second overall in 2016 for the first time before moving on from him.

Wentz’s counterpart Jalen Hurts and the Eagles are six-and-a-half-point favorites despite playing on the road. The Eagles have emerged victorious in four of their last five trips to the nation’s capital and have won eight of their last ten overall meetings with Washington.

The Eagles are -286 favorites on the moneyline, 6.5 point favorites on the spread and the total is set at 47.5 in this Eagles vs Commanders’ matchup.

However, Washington is predicted to win 36.3-32.9 based on our formula.

Kickoff at FedEx Field is set for 1:00 pm ET. The first half is expected to be cloudy with sunny breaks, with a 70% of showers in the second half. Winds will gust up to 15 miles per hour. FOX is carrying the broadcast in the United States.

Eagles Rolling Through Two Weeks

Jalen Hurts and co. have been fantastic at racking up points through the first two weeks, picking up a total of 62 against Detroit and Minnesota. Hurts has been exceptional in the early going, with 576 passing yards and 147 rushing yards, to go with four total touchdowns.

It’s not just the offense that has been firing on all cylinders, however, as the D really stepped up against the Vikings, allowing only seven points. They’re second in the NFL overall (according to Pro Football Focus), first in offense and sixth in defense.

Washington will find it difficult to keep up with their NFC East counterparts, as they gave up a combined 58 points to the Jags and Lions, who were considered two very weak teams coming into the season. The Commanders are 26th on the campaign in D.

Eagles vs Commanders Injury Report

Both teams enter Week 3 with a relatively clean bill of health. Eagles defensive linemen Brandon Graham and Fletcher Cox were full participants in practice on Friday. Receivers A.J. Brown and Quez Watkins also participated. The same goes for offensive linemen Lane Johnson and Jason Kelce. The only notable exception was starting left guard Landon Dickerson (foot).

For Washington, a pair of d-linemen are out for Sunday with Casey Toohill (concussion), and Daniel Wise (ankle), unable to suit up.

79% of bets have been placed against the spread for Philadelphia to cover, with 87% of the handle laid on Philly in Eagles vs Commanders NFL betting trends, with a whopping 93% of the handle on the road team on the moneyline.

Eagles vs Commanders Prediction

There’s a reason why the Eagles are the fourth choice in the NFL Super Bowl Odds, with how they’ve shown themselves to be a complete team in the early going. While it is reasonable to wonder if they are worthy of such high praise, given they beat the Lions and Vikings, clearly they’re a force to be reckoned with.

Washington, meanwhile, beat up on a Jags team in their home opener, then were handily outplayed by Detroit. The Wentz revenge factor is something to consider in this contest, but he’s prone to turnovers if he forces the ball into tight windows. So far he’s been impressive (second in yardage, seven TDs) but a bad game is lurking around the corner like Week 18 vs the Jags last season.

Five of the last seven Eagles contests have gone under the listed 47.5 total. As for the last four meetings between these two combatants, each time the under would’ve hit. Philly is too strong and will overmatch the Commanders, but the under is very much in sight.

The Pick:

  • Eagles -6.5 (-109); 1.5 units to win 1.38 units
  • UNDER 47.5 (-109) 1.5 units to win 1.38 units

2022 record: 2-3; Overall for -1.70 units
