Philadelphia is a whopping 10.5-point favorite over the visiting Steelers, and at -475 on the moneyline has an 82.6 percent expected win probability. The Steelers won 38-29 and covered as a 7.5-point home favorite the last time the teams played in 2020. They have met only three times since 2008.

The Eagles are 4-2 ATS, 3-0 ATS at home while becoming the NFC favorite in the Super Bowl odds. The total has gone over in seven of their last eight games. The Steelers are 3-3-1 ATS, 2-2 ATS on the road this season and 3-6 ATS in their line nine on the road. The total has gone under in four of Pittsburgh’s last six on the road.

Philadelphia is 1-3 SU and 0-3-1 ATS after a bye since 2018. Over a longer stretch, they are 4-6 SU and 2-6-2 ATS in that spot. Philly opened as a 9-point favorite before being bet up to a number that is higher for either side than in any of previous 10 meetings.

Philadelphia Adds to Strength

The Eagles, who rank in the top five in the NFL in both total offense (fifth) and total defense (fourth), added another noteworthy defensive piece this week when they traded for Chicago defensive end Robert Quinn, a three-time Pro Bowl selection, most recently last season with the Bears.

Quinn has 102 career sacks, although only one in seven games with the Bears this season. He had 18 1/2 sacks a year ago, one-half short of his career high set in 2013. Offseason free agent signee Haason Reddick has 4 1/2 of the Eagles’ 17 sacks, and Reddick forced a fumble on three of those sacks.

The Eagles have a league-high 14 takeaways (nine interceptions) and a plus-12 turnover margin.

Hurts, Doesn’t He

Philadelphia quarterback Jalen Hurts is on a pace to set career production marks in his third season, his second as a full-time starter. He has completed a career-best 67 percent of his passes for six touchdowns with a 1.1 percent interception rate, half of his career average.

Hurts also has 293 yards rushing and six touchdowns, often the beneficiary of an Eagles’ goal-line formation in which he lines up behind center with two running backs and a tight end directly behind him.

Wide receiver A.J. Bown, another offseason addition, has given Hurts another weapon to go along with running back Miles Sanders and tight end Dallas Goedert. Brown has 33 receptions for a team-high 503 yards and two scores, and Goedert also has 33 catches.

Pittsburgh Mired in a Slump

The Steelers returned to rookie quarterback Kenny Pickett with limited success in a 16-10 home loss to Miami last week. Pickett completed 32 for 44 passes for 257 yards and a touchdown against the Dolphins, but threw two of his three interceptions in the fourth quarter, both stopping extended drives as neither team scored in the second half.

Pickett started the 20-18 victory over Tampa Bay on Oct. 16 but entered the concussion protocol late the third quarter and was replaced by Mitch Trubisky. who threw for 144 yards and a touchdown in the fourth quarter.

Pickett’s 66.8 quarterback rating is the lowest among league starters. He and Trubisky have combined for five touchdown passes and nine interceptions, and the Steelers’ team quarterback rating is a league-low 73.5.

The absence of a consistent passing attack has had repercussions. Halfback Najee Harris has 329 yards and one touchdown in 100 carries, and the Steelers’ 615 yards rushing and 3.7 yards per carry are among the lowest in the league. They are one of three teams without a run of at least 20 yards.

Pittsburgh vs Philadelphia Injury Notes

Steelers edge rusher T.J. Watt (pectoral, knee) returned to practice this week, opening his window to be activated from the 21-day disabled list, but he remains questionable. Watt, who has not played since opening week against Cincinnati, told reporters Friday he is “encouraged with where I am.” Steelers cornerback Eli Wallace (shoulder) and offensive tackle Larry Ogunjobi (knee) are out and cornerback Josh Jackson (groin) is questionable.

The Eagles are in good health. Offensive tackle Lane Johnson cleared the concussion protocol during the week and will play, and they have no players on the injury report.

Pittsburgh vs Philadelphia Prediction

Nothing has gotten in the Eagles’ way this season. They have won their first six by an average of 9.3 points and are doing it on both sides of the ball, with Buffalo the only other team to rank in the top 10 in total offense and total defense.

Philly intercepted Kirk Cousins three times while handing NFC Central leader Minnesota its only loss of the season in week two and had three more picks in a 26-17 win over Dallas the last time out. Even with that, the value lies with the Steelers and the points in the ebb and flow of an NFL season.

  • Pick: Pittsburgh +10.5 (-110), 2 units
