  • The 3-1 Los Angeles Rams are 2.5-point road favorites over the 2-2 Seattle Seahawks in Week 5 of the NFL’s Thursday Night Football showcase
  • TNF Betting Record: 0-0 ML; 1-1 ATS; 1-1 O/U; -0.14 units
  • The Rams have won three of four games overall and three of five at Seattle

Their unbeaten season scuttled, first place in the NFC West lost for the time being, the Los Angeles Rams must now deal with the Seattle Seahawks and their vaunted 12th player. Luckily for LA, neither has proven to be much of an issue for them in the recent past.

The Rams are 3-1 in the past four games against the Seahawks. That’s including a 30-20 verdict last season in an NFC Wild Card game at Seattle’s Lumen Field.

Oddsmakers are rolling with the road team in this one. The Rams are set as 2.5-point favorites. Seattle hasn’t covered as a home underdog since 2018 (0-2).

Rams vs Seahawks Odds

Team Moneyline Spread Total
Los Angeles Rams -134 -2.5 (-115) O 54.4(-115)
Seattle Seahawks +114 +2.5 (-105) U 54.4 (-105)

Odds as of October 6 at FanDuel

The kickoff for Thursday’s game at Lumen Field is 8:20 pm ET. The weather forecast is projecting clouds, 4 mph wind and a game-time temperature of 59 degrees.

Line Dancing

The football betting public is showing a strong belief that the Rams are heading for a big bounceback performance at Seattle. The opening line on this game was LA -1. With 87% of spread bets going on the Rams, it’s driven the spread to Rams -2.5.

Moneyline wagering is also favoring the Rams at an 87% rate. A moneyline that opened at -108 for both teams is now favoring LA at -134.

Even though the Rams are the only NFL team that is a perfect 4-0 on the Over, bettors are assessing that a total of 54.5 is a number too high to climb. Again, 87% of wagers are backing the Under, which has climbed a point from its opening digits of 54.5.

This Sounds Familiar

The first month of the NFL season saw Seahawks’ quarterback Russell Wilson posting some spectacular numbers. Wilson has thrown for nine touchdowns and hasn’t been intercepted. He’s passed for 261 yards per game, ahead of his career average of 236.4 yards. That’s happening even though Wilson has only attempted 109 passes.

The Seattle QB is leading the NFL in yards per attempt (9.6) and passer rating (129.9) and there’s Wilson for MVP rumblings. There was similar talk a year ago when Seattle broke from the gate 5-0 with Wilson leading the way. Then the team lost three of four games and Wilson lost his way, falling out of the MVP reckoning.

Run, Run, Run Away

Seattle is the NFL’s worst rushing defense. The Seahawks are allowing 152 yards on the ground per game, or 4.6 yards per carry.

Teams are recognizing this weakness. Seattle has faced the second-most rush attempts of any defense in the league. But can the Rams take advantage? LA is 23rd in the NFL in rushing (372 yards, 3.8 ypc).

Last week, LA faced a Cardinals defense allowing an NFL-high 5.4 ypc. Falling behind quickly, the Rams were forced to throw and gained just 121 yards on the ground.

Injury Report

The Seahawks are dealing with some serious injury concerns to key players heading into this game. On offense, already without perennially-injured running back Rashaad Penny (calf), who was placed on IR this week, RB Chris Carson (neck) is questionable. Wide receiver DK Metcalf (foot) is also questionable. Tight end Gerald Everett (concussion) is out.

The defense lists right defensive end Carlos Dunlap (turf toe) and strongside linebacker Darrell Taylor (ankle) as questionable.

LA is hurting at running back. Cam Akers (Achilles) is out and Darrell Henderson (ribs) is questionable. That could leave the ball-carrying duties to Sony Michel, who fumbled last week against the Cardinals. The top two TE on the depth chart – Tyler Higbee (ankle) and Johnny Mundt (shoulder) – are questionable.

Rams free safety Taylor Rapp (ankle) is questionable. However, Rams head coach Sean McVay insists all players listed as questionable will play Thursday.

Trendspotting

Rams cornerback Darious Williams has three interceptions in his last three games against Seattle, including a pick-six. LA is 6-3 against Seattle with McVay as coach.

Seattle is 2-0 facing LA on TNF. Rams’ quarterback Matthew Stafford is 0-3 in his career at Seattle. His career passer rating against Seattle is 79.1.

Pick: Los Angeles Rams -2.5 (-105), 1 unit
