  • The Baltimore Ravens smoked the Cincinnati Bengals 49-13 on Sunday
  • The Ravens have now won five in a row, winning their last four by 18.3 points per game
  • The Kansas City Chiefs have slipped down the futures board as they’ve now lost four of their last six games

The Baltimore Ravens earned another easy win on Sunday, stomping the Cincinnati Bengals 49-13. With the Kansas City Chiefs losing, the Ravens 2020 Super Bowl odds are now second in line only to the New England Patriots. Is it time to consider the Ravens a serious Super Bowl contender or are they still a team with questions?

Ravens Flatten Bengals

Some people thought it might be a flat spot for the Ravens on Sunday as they were coming off a massive win over the New England Patriots – handing them their first loss – and were facing the winless Bengals. The Ravens didn’t take their foot off the gas, though, as they easily cruised to a 36-point win.

It was a walk in the park for the Ravens as Lamar Jackson was 15-of-17 for 223 passing yards with three touchdowns and he added another 65 rushing yards and a touchdown. The Ravens actually only ran 46 plays from scrimmage but somehow totaled 49 points.

Baltimore Is on a Roll

With Sunday’s win, the Ravens have now pieced together a five-game winning streak and taking a look back, it’s not only cupcakes they’ve beaten. Sure, two of the wins were against the Bengals but they also beat the Pittsburgh Steelers, who have suddenly won four in a row, the Seattle Seahawks and the Patriots.

It’s also important to note that they’re crushing their opponents in the process. They’ve won their last four games by an average of 18.3 points per game. The defense has really perked up – partially due to the acquisition of cornerback Marcus Peters – as they are giving up just 16.5 points per game over their last four.

That’s a sizable improvement from the four games before that. In their four contests from Weeks 2-5, they were allowing 29.0 points per outing.

Chiefs Falter in Tennessee

One of the reasons why the Ravens have shot up is because the Kansas City Chiefs have slipped. This is a Chiefs team that started the year 4-0 but looking back now, this team has lost four of their last six games. At some point, bettors are going to stop making excuses for them.

At first it was just that they were caught by a surprise strategy against the Indianapolis Colts and then they were sloppy against the Houston Texans. Then it’s that Patrick Mahomes was out and no team can survive losing their MVP. Well, he was back on Sunday and the team lost at Tennessee.

To put it in perspective, the Chiefs now have the same record as the Oakland Raiders. Sure, the Raiders have impressed but nobody views them as a Super Bowl contender. The Chiefs are supposed to be a cut above.

Their main issue is their defense and running games. As long as they continue to put the games solely on Mahomes’ shoulder with little help elsewhere, the team is going to struggle – especially now that they won’t have home-field advantage in the playoffs.

Wait to Bet the Ravens

At this point, if you’re betting the Ravens, you’re betting them at a high. Their next four weeks are going to be tricky, so I expect their Super Bowl odds to drop a bit. In Week 11, they’ll host the Houston Texans. After that, they go to the Los Angeles Rams, host the San Francisco 49ers and visit the Buffalo Bills.

Although teams like the Bills, Texans and Rams are all beatable, each of the Ravens next four opponents have winning records. That means Baltimore could have a bit of a tough time. I’m expecting their Super Bowl odds to be lower after Week 14, which is probably a better time to come back here and evaluate whether you still like them.
